Aso Station Fountain Plaza: One Piece Usopp Statue & More! | Kuroba, Aso City, Kumamoto
2020.11.05

A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand report on “Aso Station Fountain Plaza” in Kuroba, Aso City, Kumamoto. Includes family-friendly highlights, access info, and opening hours.
Hello there!
This is Ayu-mama, writer for “Sarukuma.”
Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful spot in Kuroba, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
【Aso Station Fountain Plaza】.
While Sarukuma previously featured the neighboring Michi-no-Eki Aso (Roadside Station Aso),
this time we’re focusing on Aso Station itself!

Now that the National Route 57 restoration route has opened,
access to the Aso area has improved dramatically.
We hopped in the car and zoomed straight there!
Aso Station is famous as a stop for renowned trains like the luxury “Seven Stars in Kyushu” and the family-favorite “Aso Boy!” sightseeing train.
It’s an absolute paradise for little train lovers!
There’s a parking lot right in front of the station, so we recommend driving in, grabbing a platform pass, and watching the trains roll by from the platform!
And of course, you can soak in breathtaking views of the majestic Aso mountains right from the station!
Right in front of the station, you’ll spot a One Piece statue of Usopp!
For Sarukuma readers, this is the third One Piece statue we’ve covered, following Sanji at Mashiki Town Sports Park,
and Luffy at the Kumamoto Prefectural Office Promenade.
The grass around Usopp looked surprisingly pristine — and then I noticed an automatic robot lawnmower hard at work!
My son was absolutely fascinated and chased it around for ages, lol!
What We Recommend
Our top recommendation is the ‘Fountain Plaza’ right in front of the station.
Sadly, the fountain was out of order on the day we visited, so no water shows for us — such a bummer!!!
Normally, the fountain comes on several times a day.
Kids absolutely love splashing around in fountain water on hot days!
There’s also a drinking fountain on site,
and you’ll find vending machines at the station too.
Restrooms and diaper-changing tables are available both at the station and at the neighboring Michi-no-Eki Aso!
If you’re stopping by Michi-no-Eki Aso, be sure to swing by
the ‘Aso Station Fountain Plaza’ as well!
