Introducing Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse

The long-awaited Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse opens April 1st, 2021 in Mifune Town, Kamimashiki District.

With so many people eagerly anticipating this opening, I went to scope out the current situation!
Costco currently has two locations in Fukuoka, making this Kyushu’s third store and Kumamoto’s very first.
Now that Kumamoto residents (and visitors!) can grab Costco goods without traveling all the way to Fukuoka, the number of dedicated Costco fans in the prefecture is sure to skyrocket.

Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse: Membership Registration

As anyone who has shopped at Costco knows,
you’ll need a Costco Membership Card (annual fee required) to enter the store.
Sign up before the day before opening and you can join with a ¥1,000 discount!

Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse: Exterior and Parking

First, the view from the road.
It’s huuuuuuge — and that’s not even the half of it!
The whole building wouldn’t even fit in my camera frame from inside the car.
The Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse Gas Station — a members-only fuel station — actually opened ahead of the main store on Saturday, February 27th, 2021.
This is a Costco members-only gas station.
To use the gas station, you’ll need your Costco membership card along with a Costco-approved credit card (Costco Global Card, Costco Orico Mastercard, or any Mastercard® brand credit card), or a rechargeable Costco Prepaid Card.

Prepaid cards can only be purchased by members.
Since refueling is something we tend to forget, having a gas station right where you’re already shopping is super convenient.
Getting closer to the main Costco building.
It looks like a giant kamaboko (Japanese fish cake) board lying on its side.
Here’s a comparison shot with our mascot Binako-chan.
She’s so dwarfed you can barely tell who it is!

There were way more people than I expected.
Many visitors are actually here to take advantage of the early-bird membership campaign and register before the grand opening.

Good news for travelers: Costco accepts prescriptions even from non-members at the in-store pharmacy.
The building also has nursing rooms and diaper-changing tables for families.
(*Note: photography inside the store is not permitted)

Costco also has a Tire Center stocking premium-brand tires, with its own dedicated entrance.
A separate parking area for Tire Center customers is located right across from it.

Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse: Hours and Closures

The opening hours for Costco Kumamoto Mifune Warehouse are:
Daily 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
(*National holidays: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM)
Closed only on New Year’s Day.
The location is just off the Mifune Interchange exit!
It’s easy to access not only from across Kumamoto Prefecture but also from Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
