About the Shop

Hello, travelers!
This is Binako,
your SaruKuma writer who somehow always has room
for one more piece of chocolate, even after a full meal!

Today, I’m taking you to
Shiranui-machi Goryo, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture,
to visit a charming little gem called
“Cake Shop Akonoki”.

It’s a spacious cake shop, and the wooden benches outside are absolutely adorable, giving the whole place a warm, countryside feel.

There’s a generous parking lot right
in front of the shop — super convenient if you’re driving.

Inside, the shelves are packed with baked goods,
including a wonderful selection of beautifully boxed gifts — perfect souvenirs from Kumamoto.

And of course, the cakes!
Tiramisu — 388 yen
Wild Strawberry (Kiichigo) — 388 yen, and many more delicious options.

The cream puffs (shu cream) are clearly a fan favorite —
they were already sold out when we arrived!

Only 50 made per day
a truly rare treat…
I’ll definitely be back to try them next time!

One thing that really caught my eye —
Chestnut Truffles (5-piece box) — 1,080 yen
I’d never tried chestnut truffles before, so I was instantly intrigued.

Yossi’s Egg (Yossi no Tamago) — 147 yen
Yossi… like the green dinosaur from Mario…?

They also take orders for whole cakes,
so if you’re in town for a birthday or special celebration, this is a wonderful spot to order from. ^^
With so many varieties to pick from, choosing one is half the fun!

You can grab a coffee here too, making it the perfect spot
to pair with your cake or baked treats — a lovely little reward-yourself moment during your Kumamoto travels.

Payment options include
credit card and PayPay.

Recommended Menu

This time, I treated myself to the
Wild Strawberry (Kiichigo) — 388 yen!

The bright red and pink layers look almost too pretty to eat.

Topped with strawberries and mandarin oranges — a delightful little fruit garden right on your plate.

The wild strawberry mousse on top is wonderfully sweet-and-tangy,
light, refreshing, and absolutely delicious!

And here’s the surprise — there’s a chocolate layer hidden in the middle,
adding a touch of bitter sweetness that balances the whole thing beautifully.

What a luxuriously layered cake…

Next, I tried the one I’d been curious about —
Yossi’s Egg (Yossi no Tamago) — 147 yen!

A light, gently sweet sponge
paired with creamy, mildly sweet filling —
an absolute match made in heaven.

Yossi… your egg is seriously delicious!

Each bite releases another little burst of cream that you slurp up
with a satisfying “swoop” — pure, simple happiness.

Next time, I’m definitely coming back for those legendary cream puffs!
