Welcome to Ozu Town Sports Park

Hello, travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for SaruKuma.
Today I’m taking you to a hidden local gem in Mori, Ozu Town, Kikuchi District:
Ozu Town Sports Park (Ozu-machi Undō Kōen).
My son came home from a kindergarten outing raving about the wide open lawns here, where the kids ate bento and played tag. (Apparently kids these days call “oni-gokko” just “oni-go” — language evolves so fast!)
I always thought this place was just an athletic stadium, so I had to see those mysterious lawns for myself…

There’s only one truth!

So off I went to investigate!

Plenty of parking — there’s a main lot at the front and two more lots around the back.

There’s even a roadside sign pointing to the multipurpose field’s parking lot, so you won’t get lost.

This place is enormous!

Gymnasium

Ball Sports Field

Athletic Stadium

Multipurpose Field (during my visit, kids’ soccer practice was in full swing here)

Restrooms and vending machines are scattered conveniently throughout the park.

A 5-kilometer jogging course wraps around the entire park, and we saw lots of locals out running and walking — a great spot to stretch your legs while traveling.

Cherry blossom trees line the retention pond!
When they bloom in spring, this spot must be absolutely stunning!

Why You’ll Love Ozu Town Sports Park

Now, where are those famous lawns my son told me about?

Found them — and there are several!

Over here…
…and over there!
Spacious grass lawns sit beside both the gymnasium and the athletic stadium — perfect for a picnic or letting the kids run free.

Take a break on the grass between jogging or walking laps — pure relaxation!

Why not stop by Ozu Town Sports Park and get moving the next time you’re in Kumamoto?
