Hello, travelers!
This is Rikotama, writer for SaruKuma!
Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful spot located in Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture β
Mashiki Town Sports Park (Mashiki-machi Sogo Undo Koen).

The gymnasium suffered serious damage during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes β including a collapsed ceiling β but it has since been completely rebuilt and reopened in July 2020!
The playground equipment has also been refreshed, and everything looks beautifully clean and new βͺ

If you enter from the National Route 443 side, the first parking lot is right there!
And get this β there are FIVE parking lots in total!!

The whole area is incredibly spacious (*^β½^*)

The bicycle parking is huge too!

There are 6 tennis courts on site!

The athletics field is also beautifully maintained!
The perimeter doubles as a walking course β perfect for a stroll!

You’ll also find 3 vending machines on site to keep you hydrated!

Covered benches are scattered around β great for a shaded break!
Highlights & Recommended Spots

The playground equipment is located in the Community Plaza (Koryu Hiroba)!
It’s compact, but it features two slides β looks like a blast!

There’s equipment designed for younger children too βͺ

And a slightly steeper slide for the more adventurous kids!

There’s even a bouldering wall! (β§β½β¦)
On the day of our visit, an adult gentleman was getting in a workout there.
Grown-ups can have fun too!

Of course, there are swings too!
And the design is full of charm and personality!

And the showstopper β SANJI!!!
One Piece fans, prepare to be thrilled! β
A golden, gleaming Sanji statue! Absolutely awesome!
β» There are several One Piece statues scattered across Kumamoto Prefecture, so why not make a fun mission of visiting them all? β β β

Just please remember β no touching! <(_ _)>

Restrooms are available in both the gymnasium and the Mina Terrace building.
Inside, you’ll also find a beautifully decorated, charming little library πΈ β well worth a peek!
Definitely add this spot to your Kumamoto itinerary!
