Today I’m taking you to Aiou in Koshi City, just a short drive from central Kumamoto, to visit
RETURN HOUSE.

This charming spot specializes in Basque-style cheesecake ✨
I’d been eyeing it on Instagram for ages and finally made it over!
Before opening the shop, the owner traveled all over Japan tasting cheesecakes from countless famous bakeries — talk about dedication ✨
I followed Google Maps to find the shop 🚙
Driving through peaceful countryside roads, the directions led me to what looked like a factory building!
Following the map exactly, I turned in and…
There it was — the OPEN sign for RETURN HOUSE ✨ (phew 😊)The parking lot is nice and spacious 🚙

Current opening hours start at either 11:00 or 12:00, with the daily schedule announced on Instagram.
The interior is a stylish blend of black accents and natural wood — very Instagram-worthy!
The swallow-themed logo is gorgeous too ✨
The husband-and-wife team craft each cheesecake with care, every single day 🧀

To the left as you walk in, the menu is beautifully displayed!Here are the highlights:

Moon-Viewing Matcha — ¥550 (Whole cake ¥3,800)

It’s wonderful having so many options to choose from ♪
The Pumpkin flavor is a limited-time menu item this month only!

The Moon-Viewing Matcha cake uses premium matcha from Koyama Tea Producer in Yamaga, available only until mid-November!

They also offer coffee ☕

Iced Coffee — ¥450
Hot Coffee — ¥400

The beans come from Chirin Chirin Coffee Store in Miyoshi, Koshi City — a wonderful local roaster.

There’s no eat-in space at the moment, but the owners plan to add a seating area on the right side of the shop in the future.
Definitely a place to keep on your radar 👀

They also sell beautiful gift boxes featuring the gold logo ♪
Perfect as a souvenir for friends or family back home!

I wanted to try every single flavor, but this time I went with Lemon and Pumpkin!

Here’s the Lemon 🍋
First bite — wow.
It’s incredibly soft. It literally melts in your mouth.
So delicious…
The refreshing lemon tang is so light I could eat several pieces 🥄
And here’s the Pumpkin 🎃
The little Halloween decorations are adorable!
This one melts on the tongue too ✨
A gentle, comforting pumpkin flavor fills your mouth.

Both cheesecakes were absolutely divine ✨
I also brought home a Plain flavor as a gift, and it was a huge hit!
The cheesecakes pair beautifully with coffee — pure sweet bliss.
Beyond the storefront, RETURN HOUSE also runs mobile sales and pops up at local marchés.
