DANKE.cafe in Shiranui, Uki City: A Vineyard-Born Hideaway Where Every View Becomes Art
2024.09.06

A Sarukuma writer’s firsthand visit to DANKE.cafe in Shiranui-machi, Uki City. Price range: from 800 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access information, and opening hours.
Introducing DANKE.cafe
Hello travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for Sarukuma.
With summer vacation behind us, I finally got the chance to visit a café I’d been eyeing for ages!
Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a brand-new gem in Shiranui-machi, Uki City:
DANKE.cafe.
Beautiful flowers greet you at the entrance!
That’s right — DANKE.cafe just opened its doors on September 1st! (Cue the applause! ♫)
The owners run a local farm, and the café actually sits on what used to be their vineyard.
While working the fields, they kept thinking, “What a stunning view this is.”
That simple thought blossomed into a vision — and after 5 years and 8 months of dreaming and planning, DANKE.cafe was born!
Even though I dropped in unannounced, the owners generously shared their story with me, so let me pass it all along to you (^^)/
The location is super easy to find ♫
It sits right along National Route 266, with a clear sign and banner marking the entrance.
If you’re driving down from central Kumamoto City, you’ll pass by Kinka Manju along the way — another delicious stop worth checking out.
The parking lot is spacious, but expect things to get busy on weekends and holidays (>_<)
Here’s the back of the building!
Take a closer look — notice anything unusual?
See those tires peeking out?
That’s because DANKE.cafe is actually built from two trailers placed side by side!
“Trailer houses aren’t that rare, are they?” you might be thinking (^^)
But here’s the kicker — this is the ONLY place in Kumamoto where two trailers have been combined into a single café space!
And putting two trailers together creates something truly special…
…this incredibly spacious terrace!
Look out across the grape greenhouses to the sparkling Shiranui Sea beyond.
The sunshine is warm, but the sea breeze keeps you wonderfully cool (●^o^●)
With the weather growing crisp, the terrace view is absolutely worth lingering over ♫
Some guests even come at sunset to enjoy a drink while watching the sun dip into the sea.
What a beautiful way to spend an evening…
You can also spot the torii gate of nearby Einoo Tsurugi Shrine from here!
The stunning views aren’t limited to the terrace.
Step inside, and you’re greeted by a scene that looks like a perfectly framed photograph.
Unlike the open terrace, the window frame turns the landscape into living art.
In the evenings, you might catch local elders strolling along the seawall — a scene straight out of a painting.
And it’s not just the views that make DANKE.cafe special.
The walls are covered in handmade washi paper.
This traditional Japanese paper comes from Kaisuishu, another local artisan shop right here in Shiranui.
The unifying philosophy throughout the space? Creating an atmosphere where guests can truly relax and unwind.
There’s a table seating area at the back of the café.
The tables here are slightly lower, which is perfect for families with kids (^^)/
“But wouldn’t a low table block the view out the window?”
Let’s actually sit down and see!
Here’s the view from a seated position.
“At these seats, we want guests to look up and enjoy the sky,” the owner told me.
The thoughtful reasoning behind the lower tables — combined with this peaceful view — is enough to make you sigh with contentment.
The women’s restroom is intentionally larger than the men’s, designed so parents can comfortably enter with young children.
“There’s something fun in the men’s room too — want to take a peek?”
Who could resist that invitation? (^^)/
This sticker is brilliant! lol
All our male Sarukuma readers are dapper gentlemen, right? lol
Beside the register, there’s a small retail corner selling sweets.
The Shiranui citrus used in these treats comes straight from their own farm!
Here’s the menu (^^)/

On the day I visited, the main dish was Japanese-style fried chicken (karaage) ♪
The small side dishes also rotate from time to time.
Here’s more about the coffee.
As the description says, Shiranui Coffee is made by fermenting Shiranui citrus and green coffee beans with wine yeast — a one-of-a-kind brew specially crafted by a local roaster exclusively for this café!
DANKE.cafe operates on a self-service system.
Water and other extras are located behind the counter seats.
After ordering and paying, you’ll receive a numbered receipt — just listen for your number to be called and pick up your order at the register (^^)/
When you’re finished, please return your dishes to this station.
Recommended Menu Items at DANKE.cafe

Absolutely fantastic!
The savory aroma of the sausage is irresistible (●^o^●)
And here’s a fun fact — this isn’t your average hot dog sausage. It’s an authentic stuffed sausage!
That satisfying snap when you bite in, followed by an explosion of juicy goodness!
Underneath, fresh shredded cabbage adds a bright, crisp contrast.
It’s seriously delicious!
The bun is a hearty hard-style bread — crunchy on the outside, soft and pillowy inside.
The bread alone is amazing, and even though this is a simple hot dog, you can taste the care in every detail!
I paired it with a Shiranui Coffee.
A piece of dried Shiranui citrus — the same kind sold beside the register — sits perched on top.
I expected the fermented coffee to taste quite tart, but the acidity was actually mild and well-balanced.
It has a clean, fruity flavor — if you can drink your coffee black, definitely try it without any cream or sugar ♪
The citrus and coffee notes complement each other beautifully — no clash at all!
“Save the dried Shiranui on top for last,” the owner advised, so
curious as I was, I dutifully saved it for the very end.
And then I understood!
The dried citrus had soaked up the coffee, releasing a burst of juicy flavor with every bite.
Slightly bitter, yet bursting with surprisingly fresh fruit notes — it was incredible!
If you order Shiranui Coffee, definitely save the citrus for last (●^o^●)
Many customers get hooked on this combination, and quite a few even buy bags of dried Shiranui to take home!
They also sell drip-bag packs of the DANKE Original Blend coffee.
Perfect for souvenirs or gifts to bring home ♪
Shiranui is becoming a hotspot for amazing eateries, and DANKE.cafe is the latest must-visit destination!
Come enjoy the ever-changing sky and sea — hour by hour, season by season — alongside truly delicious food and coffee at DANKE.cafe (^^)/
