Kajitsu no Kuni COUPLES: Seasonal Fruit Picking in Aso, Kumamoto β A Family-Friendly Adventure
2020.11.02

A Sarukuma writer visits “Kajitsu no Kuni COUPLES” in the Couples area of Aso and shares a firsthand report. We’ve compiled family-friendly tips, access details, and operating hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”
Today I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful spot located in Nishimachi, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
Kajitsu no Kuni COUPLES (The Land of Fruit COUPLES).
This is a fantastic facility where you can experience ‘fruit picking’ β harvesting fruit grown pesticide-free or with reduced pesticides amidst Aso’s spectacular natural scenery.
All fruit is grown without pesticides or with minimal pesticides!
That means even small children can enjoy them with complete peace of mind.
On this particular day, we visited for some ‘apple picking’ fun!

Here’s the parking lot.
There’s also a second parking area, so you don’t need to worry about finding a spot.
Why You’ll Love This Place
Just step inside this building and tell the friendly staff “We’d like to go apple picking, please!”
and they’ll guide you right away!
Just follow the apple-picking arrows to head to the orchard.

It’s a short walk to the orchard, but the arrow signs make it impossible to get lost.
Along the way, you can take in breathtaking views of Aso’s beautiful mountains.
Once you arrive at the orchard, a friendly staff member will greet you and give a quick briefing before you start picking.
My son listened intently β totally serious!
For higher branches, you can use this special picking pole.
The staff also explained details about the orchard,
and walked us through the different apple varieties.
On this day, we were able to harvest the green ‘Gunma Meigetsu’ apples and the red ‘Fuji’ apples!
And now, the moment we’d been waiting for β apple picking begins!
My son was completely in his element, picking apple after apple with enthusiasm.
Even a preschooler could pick apples easily β it’s that beginner-friendly!
Got a green apple!
There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about cradling a fresh-picked green apple in your arms.
Got a red apple too!
A bright red apple, a curious little boy β the perfect picture-book moment. I almost wished I’d dressed him in a navy blue T-shirt for the full storybook effect (haha).
The pricing system is wonderfully fair β you only pay for the fruit you take home.
How thoughtful! (Just be careful not to overdo it!)
This is the kind of unique, hands-on experience that’s hard to come by in everyday life,
and parents and kids alike will have a wonderful time together!
Next time, I want to come back for strawberry picking!
