Ajisen Ramen Main Store: Kumamoto’s Soul Food Ramen in Suizenji
2020.10.31

A Sarukuma writer visits Ajisen Ramen Main Store in Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City. Price range: from 390 yen. We’ve also gathered family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”
Today, I’m excited to introduce a true Kumamoto icon located in Suizenji, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
Ajisen Ramen Main Store (Ajisen Ramen Honten)!
You’ve probably heard of this one!
Ajisen Ramen is the soul food of Kumamoto Prefecture!
The main store sits conveniently close to the Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office.
There are 8 parking spaces beside the restaurant and 10 more behind it — plenty of room if you’re driving.
A masked Chii-chan (the friendly mascot) greets you at the entrance!

Inside, you’ll find table seats, counter seats,
and traditional Japanese-style tatami seating (zashiki) — a fun cultural touch for international visitors!
They have child-sized chairs available, including special ones for the tatami area!
Even the smallest little ones can comfortably reach the table, which is a huge relief for families.
They also sell take-home souvenir products — perfect for bringing a taste of Kumamoto back home!
Recommended Menu
This time, I visited on the special “Thanks Day” held on the 22nd of every month!
On Thanks Day, a bowl of Ajisen Ramen costs an unbelievable 390 yen — a jaw-dropping bargain you don’t want to miss!
Just keep in mind, on Thanks Day the menu is limited to special items only.
The regular menu offers a much wider variety, including kid-friendly ramen options.
Of course, I ordered the classic Ajisen Ramen (390 yen Thanks Day price)!
And the taste? Well, you already know!
“Absolutely incredible!!!”
This is the real deal — authentic Kumamoto-style ramen at its finest!
You can even choose your noodle firmness, so picky eaters and families can request softer noodles for the kids — a really thoughtful touch!
This time I went with a large portion and shared it with my son.
They also lend out children’s tableware on request!
But even though I ordered the large size,
my son ended up eating most of it himself — haha!
(I should have just ordered him his own bowl!)
So I added an order of Yaki-Shoronpo (pan-fried soup dumplings, special collaboration price 2 pieces for 150 yen)!
These were piping hot with juicy meat fillings inside — absolutely delicious!
If you’re heading to Ajisen Ramen, Thanks Day is the best time to go for an unbeatable deal!
