Today I’m excited to introduce you to a wonderful local sweets shop in Tsukikago-machi, Uto City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Uto Mochi Honpo Johnan-do (Tsukikago Branch)”

※The main shop is located near Uto Station, but today we’re visiting the Tsukikago Branch.

Have you ever heard of “Uto Mochi”?

As someone who relocated here from another prefecture, I had never heard of it before 😲 Apparently it’s quite famous — a true specialty of Uto City.

There’s also a similar mochi called “Kosode Mochi,” but that was new to me too! Today, I’m reporting on Uto Mochi!

The shop sits along Route 57, with a parking lot right next door 🚙💨

You’ll spot a vending machine right out front.

And next door, you’ll find a Hotto Motto bento shop ♪

Near the entrance, there’s a sample display of “Uto Mochi”!

One pack costs just 324 yen — what a steal! 😊

They also offer boxed sets, which make perfect souvenirs to bring home ＼(^o^)／
Just a heads up: the best-by date is the following day, so enjoy them quickly!

The box features a stylish design of Uto Yagura — one of the iconic turrets of Kumamoto Castle. So elegant! ♪

This shop is officially recognized as a long-established business of Uto — truly a place steeped in history (ﾟ∀ﾟ)

Inside the shop, you’ll also find juices, snacks, and various boxed sweets perfect for souvenirs!

They even serve soft-serve ice cream!

And with the catchphrase “Nostalgic yet new — that delicious feeling, once again,”
they also stock custard cakes for just 108 yen each!

The packaging really does have that nostalgic charm — “I’ve totally had this before!” 😋 It hits you with a wave of familiar comfort.

Lightly dusted with kinako-style powder — they look absolutely irresistible 🎶

Inside is a delicate koshian (smooth red bean paste).
The mochi has the perfect soft texture, and the anko offers a simple, comforting flavor that warms the heart (´∀｀)

The bite-sized portions are so easy to eat, you could keep going well past 10 pieces.

It feels like a fun traditional Japanese sweet that kids will love too 👦👧
