2020.11.07

A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand report on “GIARDINO” in the Hanabatacho district of Kumamoto. Price range: from 1,050 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
Hello, fellow travelers!
On chilly days, nothing beats a warm cup of hot cocoa β
this is SaruKuma writer Binako!
Today I’m taking you to
Hanabatacho, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City, to visit
“GIARDINO”.
Word on the street is that if you say the magic password, you can get a free Margherita pizza!
The magic password is
“Pizza wa tada de o-jaru” (Pizza is on the house!)
So here we go β let’s give it a try!

The restaurant is housed inside a large, stylish building.

GIARDINO is located on the 3rd floor!

The building also houses Hanabata Community Center and Janjango,
giving the whole place a magical, otherworldly vibe that’ll get you excited the moment you step in.

The restaurant also accepts
GoToEat regional coupons!
Now’s the perfect chance to dine here at a great price.

The interior is split between the 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor features multiple table seats with a relaxing atmosphere, perfect for taking your time over a leisurely meal.

The upper floor offers a different vibe β ideal for celebrations or large group gatherings.

Kids’ chairs are available, and each table comes with a couple of blankets β a thoughtful touch for chilly days.
And with heaters placed throughout the space, the whole restaurant has a cozy, warm feel.

Children’s plates and cups are also provided, so families with kids can dine here with peace of mind.

The staircase down to the lower floor has magazines and picture books β perfect for keeping kids entertained while waiting for food.

Here’s the famous campaign!

Recommended Menu

This is the seasonal menu, packed with fresh, in-season ingredients across a wide variety of dishes. Everything looks so luxurious and delicious β you’ll want to try it all!

There’s also a wide range of other dishes β from seafood to meat β making it perfect for sharing a variety with friends.
Omurice (1,050 yen) and Gorgonzola Risotto (1,150 yen)
are among the rice dishes available. The risotto looks especially stylish β sure to lift your spirits as you eat!
Desserts are also on the menu for a sweet finish to your meal!
The drink list features beer, wine, cocktails, and more β there’s a strong chance you’ll order more than one!
Don’t drink alcohol? No problem!
Non-alcoholic cocktails and juices are available, so everyone can join in the fun.

The wine selection is impressive β wine lovers might end up staying a while (lol).

For drinks, I ordered:
Organic Ginger Ale β 540 yen
Freshly Squeezed Carrot Juice β 540 yen
Both were super fresh β the perfect companions to start a meal.

Next up:
Bagna Cauda β 1,200 yen
The vegetables are 100% pesticide-free, sourced from Yagogawa in Ozu Town β incredibly fresh.
That’s GIARDINO for you!

The sauce is INSANELY good!
So good I wanted to take it home with me.
Someone, bring me a container!
It pairs beautifully with every vegetable β you’ll find your hand reaching for more and more.

Next:
Salmon Carpaccio β 990 yen

This unique carpaccio comes topped generously with seasonal persimmons. I was a bit nervous about the combo, but β
Wow!
Way too delicious!
It completely won me over.
Next:
Dutch Oven Grilled Chicken β 1,300 yen
The aroma alone is incredible β one look and one whiff and you know it’s going to be amazing.
Looks amazing, right?
Big bite incoming!

So good I’m literally moaning.
The umami spreads through your mouth the moment you bite in. The chicken is tender and juicy, perfectly seasoned β before I knew it, the entire dish was gone.
Wait, already finished?
And finally, the famous
Free Margherita!
Remember everyone, the magic password is
“Pizza wa tada de o-jaru”
Got it?

And it’s HUGE!
Definitely not your average freebie.
GIARDINO is doing it big!
The pizza dough has recently been switched to a thin, crispy style, so you can enjoy that satisfying crunch from the first bite to the last!
Time to dig in.
The crust is wonderfully crispy
and the tomatoes are super fresh and ridiculously good.
The cheese, the sauce, every component is delicious.

Last but not least:
Catalana β 600 yen
The top is torched right at the table β a fun little performance that gets you hyped!

Crack through the freshly torched top!

Ohhhhh my goodness!
Soooo delicious!
Creamy and crispy β pure indulgence!
From start to finish, this was a luxurious, deeply satisfying meal that filled both my heart and my stomach.

Bonus tip: Right across the way at Hanabata Community Center, you can enjoy a GIARDINO lunch for just 1,200 yen!
And get this:
90 minutes of unlimited karaoke + free drink bar included!
All for just 1,200 yen β what a steal!
There’s a private room with a kids’ space, so families can enjoy lunch and karaoke worry-free.
This lunch also qualifies for the free Margherita deal β talk about the ultimate combo!
