Today, I’m excited to introduce you to
Bonpaya Ltd., located in Miyaji, Ichinomiya-machi, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
You’ll find this charming shop nestled along the Aso Ichinomiya Monzen-machi shopping street — a historic street leading up to the famous Aso Shrine.

This delightful little shop carries a wonderful variety of dagashi (traditional Japanese penny candy), tenugui (Japanese cotton hand towels), and other charming general goods^^

Here’s the corner stocked with tenugui and handkerchiefs —
an absolute treasure trove of beautiful patterns and designs that make perfect souvenirs to take home^^

And here’s the stationery and dagashi corner^^
They even carry locally made products from the Aso region — perfect for picking up authentic Japanese souvenirs! (^^♪

The dagashi selection is incredible — kids absolutely love picking out their favorite candies here! ( *´艸｀)
And with such reasonable prices, parents can relax and enjoy the experience too (^^♪

Right by the register, you’ll find traditional Japanese omikuji (paper fortunes) — what a fun touch!
I didn’t try one this time, but I’m definitely coming back to grab one (*´Д｀)

Bonpaya’s Must-Try Menu

Outside the shop, a vibrant, mouthwatering ice cream sign caught my eye —
it was practically calling my name!
Needless to say, I had to try one! lol

The ice creams are stored in a freezer, so you can browse and pick your favorite flavor.

Strawberry Shortcake — 480 yen
Mango Shortcake — 480 yen
Cafe Nut Milk — 380 yen
Choco Mint Cookie — 380 yen
Annin Berries (Almond Tofu Berry) — 280 yen

They all look so tempting — impossible to choose just one!
Trust me, I totally understand that feeling…

But of course…

I went with the Strawberry Shortcake — 480 yen!

That generous slice of strawberry on top is just perfection.
It looks like a sparkling jewel of an ice cream — totally Instagram-worthy!

Oh wow!
This really IS strawberry shortcake!!!
It’s seriously delicious!
It genuinely tastes like you’re eating an actual strawberry shortcake —
the tartness of the strawberry pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the cream, and being frozen takes the flavor to a whole new level!

The texture is smooth and so easy to enjoy!

The Strawberry Shortcake was such a perfect choice that
now I want to come back and try every other flavor! lol
