A SaruKuma writer’s first-hand report on Shimizu Kamei Park, a charming little park in Shimizu, Kita Ward, Kumamoto. Includes family-friendly highlights, access info, and opening hours.

Welcome to Shimizu Kamei Park

Hello, travelers! I’m Asukarando, a writer for SaruKuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Shimizu Kamei-cho, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City:
Shimizu Kamei Park

This lovely little park sits within walking distance of the Shimizu Children’s Center — a perfect spot to let the kids burn off some energy! \(^o^)/

A coin-operated parking lot is conveniently located right across from the park.

You’ll also find a vending machine right next to the parking — handy for grabbing a cold drink on a hot Kumamoto day.

There’s a hand-washing station too, so you don’t have to worry if the little ones get their hands dirty (^-^)

The restroom is a traditional Japanese-style squat toilet — a fun cultural experience for first-time visitors to Japan! It was very well maintained and clean during our visit.

Plenty of benches scattered around for parents to relax (^-^)

There are even covered benches with roofs — perfect for sun protection or unexpected showers (^o^)v

Shady trees throughout the park provide cool spots even on bright sunny days, making it comfortable for an extended visit (*^^*)

Here are the park rules posted at Shimizu Kamei Park \(^o^)/

~ Let’s all play safely and follow the rules ~

While traffic on the surrounding streets isn’t heavy, the park sits directly next to the road, so please keep a close eye on small children to prevent them from running out!
The park is small enough that you can easily watch your kids, but caution is still recommended.

Why You’ll Love Shimizu Kamei Park

Despite its compact size, this park is wonderfully equipped with a great variety of play equipment (^-^)

First up: classic swings!

Adorable dolphin and orca spring riders!

The colors look fresh and vibrant, suggesting they’ve been recently maintained.

A gently curved slide!
The slide is low enough that parents can easily support smaller children from below, making it safe and stress-free for toddlers (*^^*)

Beyond the playground equipment, there’s also an open grass field where kids can run around freely \(^o^)/

Shimizu Kamei Park may be small, but it’s the perfect size for families traveling with young children — a peaceful slice of local Kumamoto life away from the typical tourist trail.
