Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Binako, a writer for SaruKuma — and today my son challenged me to a race to see who could eat frozen cherry tomatoes faster (the ones I’d been freezing for smoothies).

Today I’m thrilled to introduce you to a charming chestnut sweets shop located in Shimouchida, Kikuka-machi, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
“Yamaga Wagri Patisserie An”.

Wait — is this a fairytale cottage? The exterior is absolutely enchanting (*´Д｀)

To help guests beat the summer heat, a cooling mist sprays down at the entrance. My kids were beside themselves with excitement. (laughs)

Inside, you’ll also find a selection of Kumamoto souvenirs and goods ^^

They also sell baked sweets to take home (*´Д｀)
And of course, many of the baked treats are made with chestnuts — I couldn’t stop grinning! ( *´艸｀)

In the display case you’ll find:
Apple Pie — 340 yen each
Whole Marron Pie — 260 yen each

They both look incredible! That golden, perfectly baked crust is just stunning.
Autumn really is the best season. I love autumn flavors so much.

There’s another display case full of cakes too!

Monte Cheese (Cheesecake)

Whole Cake — 1,080 yen

Just look at how fluffy it is!!

It’s so soft and round you’ll want to reach out and touch it!
The staff said it has a light, refreshing cheese flavor — perfect for those who don’t love overly sweet desserts.

There are SO many autumn sweets to choose from (´;ω;｀)
How am I supposed to pick just one?!

I completely forgot why I came in the first place and just stared at the menu in awe.

Toward the back, there are tables for dining in, with partitions in the middle as a COVID-19 safety measure ^^

Right next to the seating area, there’s also a complimentary barley tea (mugicha) service — a lovely traditional Japanese touch!

But honestly — this is the one I came for!

Mont Blanc Kakigori (Shaved Ice) — Mini Size, 580 yen

Imagine a mountain of fluffy shaved ice topped with a generous swirl of mont blanc chestnut cream, finished with whole candied chestnuts on top!

Whoever invented this masterpiece deserves a medal. I’m absolutely in love.

How did I never know that cream and shaved ice could go together so perfectly?
The chestnut flavor is incredibly rich and authentic.

This isn’t just kakigori — it’s a full-on Mont Blanc experience! Pure dessert heaven!

Even the syrup drizzled over the plain ice underneath is fantastic!!

It’s also chestnut-flavored — so good you’ll forget you’re eating shaved ice!

The candied chestnuts on top are sweet and luxurious (´;ω;｀)

I savored each one slowly, treasuring every bite (´;ω;｀)

Outside the shop, I spotted the cutest little chestnut sculpture and just had to snap a photo. (laughs)

I ordered the mini size this time, but
even the mini size was incredibly filling!!

I left completely satisfied. It was truly delicious! ( *´艸｀)
