๐Ÿ“Œ What You’ll Learn in This Article
A Sarukuma writer’s first-hand visit to “COMMON SPACE” in Kosa Town, Kamimashiki District. Prices start from 350 yen. We cover family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

About the Cafe

Hello travelers! This is Maru, a writer for Sarukuma ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™ƒ
Today I’d like to introduce a wonderful spot located in Kosa Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture:

“COMMON SPACE”

Some of you may remember our previous article about “COMMON IDOE”, the stylish glamping campsite right next door.

COMMON SPACE is located inside the former Idoe-kyo Campsite.
It’s a unique cafe and bookstore rolled into one ๐Ÿ˜

The parking lot is located behind the building, but priority is given to overnight guests. If it’s full…

…you’re welcome to park at the Kyushu Electric Power lot on the right after crossing Idoe-kyo Bridge.

This is the back of the shop as seen from the river side.
The location is surrounded by lush mountains and a clear flowing river โ€” pure nature.

How dreamy is a cafe inside a campsite? ๐Ÿ˜Š
And you can even buy books here!

Out front, you’ll find plenty of colorful benches.
We spotted some visitors completely lost in their books!

The interior is bright and airy, thanks to the huge windows โ™ช

The seating is generously spaced with both tables and benches.

The terrace seats overlook the river โ€” highly recommended for the view.

In the center of the shop, you’ll find a curated selection of books.
These are stocked by DOOR BOOKS, a thoughtful little bookshop ๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“–

From children’s picture books to travel literature, the variety is great!

The collection isn’t huge, but
the curation is absolutely on-point ๐Ÿคฉ

Personally, I adore the classic Japanese picture book “Guri and Gura” ๐Ÿ’“ โ€” I’d love to live in a cottage just like theirs!

Good news for parents โ€” the restroom has a diaper changing station!

Recommended Menu

Here’s the food menu.
They serve hot dogs and fries.

Top picks include the seasonal autumn parfait and the fruit tea!

They also serve the famous Yumemiruku drinkable yogurt, which we’ve featured in a previous Sarukuma article!

The drink menu also features Yumemiruku soft-serve ice cream.
And there’s a solid lineup of alcoholic beverages too (^ ^)

For campers, the staff highly recommends the craft beer ๐Ÿบ

Oh man, that’s gotta hit the spot!

This time, I ordered the
Yumemiruku soft-serve ice cream โ€” 350 yen.

This soft-serve has won the Gold Prize at the “Soft-Serve Grand Prix,” a competition crowning the best soft-serve in all of Kyushu!
Made with freshly squeezed milk from Yoshii Farm, it has an incredibly rich flavor ๐Ÿ˜‹
It was so delicious it disappeared in seconds ๐ŸŽถ

On the right is the Fruit Soda (white peach) โ€” 350 yen

On the left, the recommended Fruit Tea (apple) โ€” 380 yen

The white peach syrup is loaded with chunks of real fruit โ€” a luxurious fruit soda โœจ
Refreshing and delicious ๐ŸŽถ

The hot tea is poured over a generous syrup full of apple pulp.
A gentle sweetness makes it incredibly comforting ๐Ÿ˜‹

Whether you’re camping or just need a getaway, why not relax with a book and tea in nature? ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿƒ
