A SaruKuma writer visits “Homare Sushi” in Miyauchi-Deme, Arao City, and shares a first-hand report. Price range: from 1,540 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Introducing Homare Sushi

Hello, this is Gachako, writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’m introducing Homare Sushi, located in Miyauchi-Deme, Arao City, right across from Arao City Hall.
Homare Sushi

The classic, traditional facade. How long has it been since I last had real (non-conveyor-belt) sushi?
My heart is racing a little (^_^;)

Parking is available in front of the shop and
there are also a few spaces in the back.

Now let’s step inside.

Wow! A proper sushi counter! ๐ŸŒŸ

My expectations are high. I find myself sitting up straight in respect.

There are 7 fully private rooms, with both tatami-style seating and sunken kotatsu tables.

Fully private tatami rooms are such a blessing for families with kids.
The staff also told us, “Families with children are absolutely welcome!

Here’s the menu.

Lunch menu.
Sashimi set 1,540 yen, tempura set 1,100 yen, and more.

Nigiri menu. There’s even a kids’ nigiri set!

The chirashi bowls also looked packed full of fresh toppings โ€” very tempting.

Recommended Dishes at Homare Sushi

Since I visited at lunchtime,
I ordered the popular tempura set for 1,100 yen.
The owner’s wife also recommended: “For a limited time, our 770-yen sea bream miso soup is just 330 yen!”
So I added that too.

Here comes the tempura set.

Tempura, nigiri, and chawanmushi (steamed egg custard)! It looks delicious!

But wait… what’s that in the back left?

Gacha: “What on earth is THIS?!”
Owner: “Huh? It’s the miso soup.”
Gacha: “No, no, no โ€” the SIZE!!”
Owner: “That’s why I told you to try it! ๐Ÿ˜„”
Gacha: “I see! (No, I really don’t.) I’d need about three stomachs for this!”
Owner: “Right? Most customers share it together!”

The bowl is roughly the size of two adult palms. No, this isn’t a soup bowl โ€” this is a donburi!
Folks, sharing is a must.

It’s the size of a championship sumo wrestler’s trophy bowl. And I came alone today (regret).

The sea bream had loads of meat โ€” clearly cut from a very large fish.
The flesh was incredibly tender with no fishy smell at all. The sea bream broth and the aroma of shiso (perilla leaf) blended together beautifully โ€” absolutely sublime.

The tempura was perfectly crisp and light. I have a soft spot for the tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet) at traditional sushi restaurants โ€” and this one was delicious!
The nigiri was also a treat to savor slowly.

Sitting at a real sushi restaurant reminded me how much more relaxing it is than the conveyor-belt kind โ€” no rush, just calm enjoyment.

I successfully finished the entire bowl of miso soup. (Glad I have a big appetite, lol.)

I still can’t believe the whole meal came to just 1,440 yen.
The 330-yen miso soup deal runs through the end of April.
The restaurant says they’ll continue to offer occasional special prices, so keep an eye out!

This is the catering menu. Delivery is available throughout Arao City and Nagasu Town.
It would be lovely for traditional celebrations like Sekku (seasonal festivals) or Shichi-Go-San (children’s milestone ceremony).
They also showed me photos of the icing cookies they sell during seasonal festivals โ€” super cute!
