Their karaage (Japanese fried chicken) gets rave reviews on Google, and trust me — ordering just 100g “to try it out” will leave you full of regret!
Once you bite into that crispy, perfectly fried chicken, you simply can’t stop (^^)/
We highly recommend calling ahead to place your order ♪

Heads up: there’s no parking lot, so many customers park along the street in front of the shop. Please be especially careful if you’re visiting with children — watch out for traffic.
It’s about a 10-minute walk from Takamori Station on the Minami Aso Railway.

Takamori Station has been beautifully renovated and is now a stunning station building.
The Sunny-go Train, wrapped with One Piece characters, is also stationed there.
A scenic open-air trolley train runs on weekends and holidays, so be sure to extend your trip and check out Takamori Station as well ♪

There’s a huge karaage sign out front, but the inside actually feels like a local supermarket.
You’ll find vegetables and fruits — and the prices are fantastic!

Don’t be surprised if you end up buying a haul of veggies along with your karaage Σ(･ω･ﾉ)ﾉ!
Toward the back of the store, you’ll find a meat counter.
For karaage, just let the cashier know and you’re set ♪

Here’s the Marufuku Takamori karaage menu:
・Karaage (boneless) — 100g / 200 yen ★ Most popular
・Karaage (with bone) — 100g / 200 yen ★ Minimum 300g
・Bone-in chicken thigh — 1 piece / 330 yen
・Whole fried chicken — 1 bird / 1,480 yen ★ Reservation required

Each order is freshly fried after you order.
Mine was ready in less than 10 minutes after I placed my order at the store.
For large orders, or on weekends and holidays, calling ahead will make things go more smoothly ♪

Marufuku Takamori Recommended Menu

There are several karaage shops around Aso City, but I’d actually never bought karaage in the Aso area before.
I’d been quietly admiring those iconic paper bags filled with karaage (lol), so getting to say “Yes! This is the packaging!” was a small but real thrill.

You can see the crispiness of the skin just by looking at it.
Of course, fresh out of the fryer is best, so I dug in right away.
Just as I expected — the skin had that crisp, almost crackling texture, delicious all on its own!
I personally love the light, salt-seasoned flavor ♡
I bought 800g hoping to save it for dinner, but… it wasn’t even close to enough! (>_<)
What? You think I snacked too much on the way?
No no, I only sneaked maybe 3 pieces in the car, I swear!By dinner time it wasn’t quite as crispy as straight from the fryer, but it was just as delicious.
My son spotted it instantly, and it disappeared into his mouth in no time.
I’d handed him a toothpick to use, but it was so good he ended up eating with his hands… (^_^;)
The seasoning isn’t too strong either, so it’s easy for kids to enjoy ♪

If you’re heading to Minami-Aso, it’s absolutely worth the trip to Takamori just to grab some karaage from Marufuku Takamori!!
Next time I’m getting a full kilogram so my whole family can enjoy it fresh and piping hot together (#^.^#)
