Today I’m taking you to a charming little spot tucked away in Nagata, Kikuchi City,
[bb natural donut] — a specialty donut shop you won’t want to miss.

This delightful donut shop opened its doors on July 1, 2023.
The shop appears almost magically in the middle of the rice fields — that’s bb natural donut. Parking is available right in front of the store.
This location used to be a cafe and zakka (lifestyle goods) shop, but the cafe operations have moved exclusively to [Cafe Zakka bb 2nd], located inside Michi-no-Eki Shisui. This original spot is now a dedicated donut shop.

Open the green door, and you’ll be greeted by a charming illustration of Kikuchi Takemitsu — Kikuchi’s legendary samurai warlord — smiling and holding a donut! It’s a delightful local touch.
The handwritten blackboard menu fits the cozy, welcoming atmosphere perfectly ♡

The shop also uses as many Kikuchi-sourced ingredients as possible, plus rice oil and unrefined cane sugar. Every donut at bb natural donut is crafted with carefully chosen, body-friendly ingredients.
Step inside and you’ll find natural, adorable display cases lined with donuts, alongside cute lifestyle goods like woven basket bags.
They also carry original local goodies like Kikuchi Gobo Chiki Curry, Kikuchi Gobo Burgers, and homemade coffee-milk syrup base.
These make wonderful souvenirs to take home!
Eye-catching kettles in vivid colors and retro-style mugs line the shelves —
And those plump, fluffy donuts in the display case? Absolutely irresistible.
Each colorful donut is handcrafted one by one — your eyes will dart from one to the next, unable to settle on just one.
The ordering process is simple and fun: just write your order on a slip of paper, hand it to the staff, and they’ll bring your donuts from the kitchen.
You can choose between a paper bag or a gift box (additional 200 yen).
The gift box is so adorable that I highly recommend it for gifts to friends, mom-friends, or relatives. The gift box holds 6 donuts.

bb natural donut offers two types: baked donuts and fried donuts.
Unique flavors like Yubeni Strawberry Glaze (made with Kumamoto’s signature Yubeni strawberries) and Apricot Mango Chai will make your heart skip a beat.

Honestly, I’d buy the gift box just to put random things in it.
If someone hands you a stylish gift box like this filled with high-quality donuts, you’d fall in love with them on the spot. Trust me.

The day we visited happened to be rainy, but customers kept streaming in. Even though it was still morning, several donut varieties were already sold out, so we hurried to grab what was left!

I got so caught up in the excitement that I forgot to write down the names — a writer’s worst sin! But prices generally ranged from 190 to 300 yen, so affordable that you can’t help but buy several.Here are the matcha-anko (sweet red bean) and plain donuts that didn’t fit in the box.
I thought it was anko and butter, but it was actually anko with cream cheese!
Who knew sweet red bean and cream cheese would pair so beautifully?
It’s a satisfyingly hearty, irresistible donut.
The Yubeni Glaze donut shows off the natural pink color of Kumamoto’s Yubeni strawberries — the color is gorgeous from every angle.
The kids absolutely loved it.
