Introducing HASHINSHITA

Hello, travel lovers! I’m Asukarando, a writer for Sarukuma.

Today I’m excited to introduce a one-of-a-kind spot in Misumi-machi, Uki City:
HASHINSHITA.

My family loves fishing, and we’d heard amazing things about this guesthouse where you can fish, stay overnight, and have a blast — all in one place. So we packed up the kids and went to experience it ourselves. Spoiler: it was incredible!

HASHINSHITA sits right beneath the No. 1 Bridge that leads toward Amakusa.

The name is a clever play on words: “hashi-no-shita” means “under the bridge” in Japanese — easy to remember, right?

If you’re driving from Kumamoto City, the easiest route is via Misumi Port.

There’s a clear sign and a spacious parking lot.

The guesthouse is built from shipping containers — and as you can see from the outside, it’s surprisingly large!

Let me take you on a tour inside!
Shoes come off at the entrance, and indoor slippers are provided (including kid-sized ones — a thoughtful touch).

Step inside, and you’re greeted by a bright, open shared living room with a beautiful sea view.

They sell snacks, instant noodles, and bottled water on-site. Forgot something? No problem. They even sell complete fishing rigs ready to use!

Amenities include toothbrushes, combs, razors, and body sponges.

Beyond the living area, there are four guest rooms.

Here’s a peek inside one of the rooms!

Each room features bunk beds and a TV, with a layout similar in size to a standard business hotel room.
Every room has its own air conditioner, so you’ll be comfortable whether you visit in summer or winter.
Everything outside the guest rooms is shared space.

The rooms have three different types of charging cables, so most devices can be charged easily.

Under the TV, you’ll find towels, a hair dryer, and tissues — all provided in every room.

There are two shower rooms.
The water pressure and temperature were both excellent!
*Shampoo and body soap are provided.

Right next to the showers are separate restrooms for men and women.

There’s even a step stool so little ones can wash their hands properly.

There’s also a coin-operated laundry on site!

Right next to the living room, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen with all the cookware you need.

The huge refrigerator has more than enough space for groceries you bring along — or for the fish you catch!

There’s also an ice machine, so no need to buy bagged ice. The ice is even safe to drink with!

A rice cooker, toaster, and microwave are all available — basically everything you need to cook a full meal!

Tableware and cooking utensils are stocked too, so you can prepare full meals with ease.
*Note: The dishes are all ceramic, so for outdoor BBQ it’s a good idea to bring paper plates and disposable chopsticks.

There are also trash bins on site — no need to take garbage home with you!

Outdoor BBQ is allowed until 9:00 PM out of consideration for nearby residents.
If you’re night fishing, please keep things quiet to be considerate of the neighborhood.

Both cash and cashless payment options are accepted!

Why HASHINSHITA Is So Special

This time, we rented out the entire guesthouse for our group!

After checking in, we kicked off the BBQ while it was still light out!
(The owner kindly took care of starting the fire and prep work for us.)

Even before the meat was on the grill, my fishing-obsessed family had already cast their first lines!

That’s the magic of HASHINSHITA: BBQ and fishing happening side by side!

The moms enjoyed an endless BBQ and relaxing in the rooms.

Meanwhile, the dads and kids fished to their hearts’ content with no time limit!

When you get tired, you can take it easy in the rooms, play, and snack and drink to your heart’s content.

Even after dark, the area around the guesthouse is well lit, so it felt safe even with kids.

On this trip, we caught garakabu (marbled rockfish), mebaru (rockfish), suzuki (sea bass), and konoshiro (gizzard shad)!

Here’s another huge plus: you can clean and prep your catch right there in the kitchen, then bag it up to take home!

Cleaning fish in your own kitchen after a fishing trip can be such a hassle. Being able to fillet your catch on-site and head home ready to cook? Total game-changer.Just pop your catch into a Ziploc bag and toss it straight into the freezer when you get home!

If filleting fish isn’t your strong suit, no worries — they offer scaling, gutting, three-piece filleting, and saku-cutting services too!

The owner lives nearby and often stops by to check on guests, sometimes even joining in on the fishing!

*For first-time anglers, the owner offers fishing lessons — taking some of the pressure off dad to teach everyone!

*No fishing gear? No problem! Rod rentals are available.

The best fishing times tend to be very early morning or late at night.

But at HASHINSHITA, you can fish late into the night, hit the shower, sleep in a real bed, and start fishing again the moment you wake up. For fishing lovers, it’s pure heaven!

My son even said he wanted to move in permanently!

What makes HASHINSHITA so special isn’t just the seaside location or the well-equipped guesthouse — it’s the warmth and personality of the owner couple. That’s the real heart of the experience!

HASHINSHITA isn’t just for fishing-loving dads — it’s a place where the whole family can have a blast and walk away saying, “We have to come back!” Why not make some unforgettable family memories here?

On certain days, the guesthouse is rented out exclusively to one group.
There’s also a separate cottage just nearby in addition to the guesthouse.

Since we had little ones with us, we opted for a private rental — and it was wonderful to relax without worrying about other guests.

I’d recommend choosing the option that fits your family’s style.

By the way…

The fish we brought home…

There was so much we couldn’t finish it in one meal, so we enjoyed it over several days.
The larger mebaru became sashimi and simmered dishes, garakabu went into miso soup, and konoshiro became nanban-zuke (sweet-and-sour marinated fish) and pressed sushi.
Fishing at HASHINSHITA, then enjoying delicious fresh fish at home while reminiscing about the trip — what we like to call the “HASHINSHITA Loop”!
