2024.11.02

A Sarukuma writer personally visits “Rotenyu Momiji,” a private family onsen tucked away in Naka, Yamaga City. Pricing starts from around ¥800, and we cover family-friendly highlights, access, and hours of operation.
Introducing Rotenyu Momiji
Hello, everyone! It’s Aikero, your Sarukuma travel writer.
Today I’m excited to share a hidden gem located in Naka, Yamaga City:
Rotenyu Momiji, an open-air private bath retreat.
On a whim, we decided to make an afternoon trip to Yamaga!
And of course, no Yamaga visit is complete without a relaxing soak in a hot spring, so we quickly searched online and discovered Rotenyu Momiji.
The deciding factor? You can make reservations in advance!
It was a Saturday evening — peak time for crowds — and Yamaga was buzzing with chestnut season visitors. With kids in tow, the last thing we wanted was to wait hours, only to give up and head home empty-handed!
If that sounds like a familiar worry, this place is a lifesaver.
Plus, it’s an absolute dream for families with young children. Let me show you why!
On the way from central Yamaga, you’ll pass by Hakko Cafe Marukame, a charming fermented food cafe!

Nearby, there’s also Once Upon an Egg, a delightful spot serving fresh-laid egg dishes and freshly brewed coffee!
Rotenyu Momiji is just under a 10-minute drive from central Yamaga.
That makes it the perfect stop after sightseeing along the historic Buzen Kaido street!♪
There’s plenty of parking available, too.
Right in front of the parking lot, there’s a free foot bath!
It’s a wonderful way to relax while waiting your turn — and during this season, the gentle breeze makes it especially refreshing♪
If you look closely, you might even spot a heart shape♫
Here’s the entrance to Rotenyu Momiji.
Lush greenery surrounds the area — instant excitement!
Inside, you’ll find vending machines for drinks and ice cream, plus a Rakuno milk pack vending machine — a classic onsen treat!
There are tables and seating areas inside, perfect for cooling down after your bath or relaxing while waiting!
The baths feature 100% natural source-flow hot spring water (kakenagashi), and the water is completely refreshed for every guest (#^.^#)
Now, the reason this place is a paradise for families with kids…
They have baths with WATERSLIDES! And not just one — FOUR of them!!
And here’s even better news!
Rotenyu Momiji accepts reservations up to one week in advance!
For our visit, we called around 2 PM the day we decided to head to Yamaga, and they had openings around 4:50 PM and 5:00 PM, so we booked right away.
Unfortunately, all the slide rooms were already reserved for the rest of the day — but if you’re planning ahead (“Hey, let’s go to Yamaga next weekend!”), definitely book in advance!
You might just snag a slide room!
• Super Express Slide — 80 min / ¥2,800
• Rainbow Slide — 70 min / ¥2,500
• Slide — 70 min / ¥2,200
• NEW! Heart Slide — 70 min / ¥2,500
• Waterfall — 80 min / ¥2,800
• Cave — 70 min / ¥2,500
• Angular Rock — 70 min / ¥2,500
• Rock — 60 min / ¥2,000
• Stone — 60 min / ¥2,000
• Stone (small) — 60 min / ¥1,500
Most rooms allow at least 60 minutes, so you can really take your time and unwind (●^o^●)
Aside from slides, there are also unique baths like a cave-style and a waterfall — really one-of-a-kind experiences!
Note: Rotenyu Momiji does not provide shampoo, conditioner, or body soap, so please bring your own or purchase them on-site.
At the entrance, there’s a monitor showing the queue status — super convenient for a quick check at a glance!
Why You’ll Love Rotenyu Momiji

Step outside and follow the path in front of you — each private bath room is along this walkway.
Here’s the size of the changing room.
Air conditioning was on, keeping it cool and comfortable.
Note that there’s no hand-washing sink in the room.
The bath we reserved was the Waterfall room!
It’s truly impressive (●^o^●)
The water was a bit on the hot side, so we mixed in some cold water from the tap for the kids before they hopped in.
One thing to remember: when you finish, please pull the bathtub plug before leaving (^^)/
After our bath, we all enjoyed a refreshing toast together!
Baths with waterslides, reservations up to a week ahead, generous 60–80 minute time slots, and fresh hot spring water every visit.
Isn’t this just perfect for families with kids?!
On the way home, we spotted Tebaya Hokubu Branch and Tebaya Ueki Branch (famous for chicken wings and daily events), plus Angelina — a bakery known for its delicious cheese tortes!
I’ve been wanting to try Tebaya ever since reading another Sarukuma review, but sadly we ran out of time on this trip…(T_T)
If you have time to spare, definitely check those out too♪
If you’re heading to Yamaga, treat yourself to a relaxing family bath experience♪
Enjoy the local gourmet stops along the way and make it an unforgettable day (^^)/
