Introducing Tsukahara Kofun Park
Hello, travelers!
This is Saa-mama, a writer for Sarukuma.
Today we’re heading to
Jonan, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, to check out
“Tsukahara Kofun Park”.

The park has a spacious parking lot.

You’ll also find vending machines with a great variety of drinks right in the parking area!

Just past the vending machines, you’ll find restrooms.

Heads up: a sign inside the restrooms says the tap water is not for drinking.
There are three water fountains scattered around the park,
but to be safe we recommend bringing your own drinks.

As you exit the parking area, you’ll spot a sign for the observatory.
The park is huge, so it’s a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the playground,
but just follow the observatory sign and the arrow, and you’ll soon see…

A covered rest area appears,
set against beautifully manicured green lawns that stretch out in every direction.

You’ll come across another set of restrooms along the way
but keep walking past them and you’ll find a path,

winding through lush, leafy greenery.

Watch out for the “Beware of pit vipers” (mamushi) sign!
It’s a little nerve-wracking in summer, but…
just beyond this point you’ll arrive at the playground area.

Highlights inside the park

The star attraction is a charming and unusual ship-shaped play structure, complete with climbing features and slides — kids absolutely love it.

Just behind the ship playground, you’ll find a tube slide,

and a Tarzan rope (zipline), too.

There’s even a merry-go-round-style spinning ride!

And don’t worry — there’s a play area for toddlers, too!

With everything from large play structures to gentler equipment for the little ones,
this nature-rich park is fun for kids from babies all the way up to elementary school age.
