Introducing Shin-Don

Hello, this is Mofumofu, a writer for [SaruKuma].

Today I’m introducing Shin-Don, located in Naganominami, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City.

🌷 Opened on November 18, 2022 🌷

This is a takeout-only specialty shop offering tempura bowls, curry, grilled beef bowls, bento boxes, and daily-changing side dishes!

I’d been wanting to visit ever since I discovered this shop on Instagram 🦐✨

I finally made it!

Shin-Don’s tempura is fried in rice oil, which means it doesn’t make you feel queasy from the smell and has no strong odor!

To put it simply: not greasy and easy to eat 🍤 (personal opinion)

The shop is in a residential area on a fairly busy road, so be careful not to drive past it ⚠️

There are 2 parking spaces beside the store 🚘

Heads up — there’s a stray cat hanging around the parking area, so please park carefully 💦

This kitty is super friendly — when you call out and reach your hand out 🤲, she comes right up meowing “nyaa~” ♡ So adorable… ♡ (Apparently she’s looking for a forever home 🥺)

Since I had a little wait after ordering, I just kept petting her the whole time 😂

Cat lovers, please give her some pets too 🐱💕

Everything looks so delicious 🤤

 

Should I add an egg to my tempura bowl, get sweet potato tempura, or try the onion fries? But wait — the daily side dishes look tempting too! I spent ages agonizing over my choice at the register 😂

Shin-Don’s Recommended Menu

This time I went with the tempura bowl and onion fries!

Mmm — looks amazing! 🤤

 

The onion fries stayed crispy even after some time had passed!

Spring onions are naturally so sweet ♡

They’d pair perfectly with a cold beer 🍻✨

 

I gave up on the egg and went with the regular tempura bowl!

It came with shrimp, green pepper, shimeji mushroom, eggplant, and pumpkin ✨

So tasty ♡

Next time I’ll try the egg tempura bowl and grab some daily side dishes 🤤

 

They’ll be back to regular hours from May 8 after Golden Week!

 

Making tempura at home is such a hassle — both the prep and the cleanup. But buying it usually costs a fortune…

Being able to grab freshly fried tempura at such reasonable prices is wonderful 🥺

You can even call ahead to reserve, so pickup is quick and easy!
