A SaruKuma writer visits “Donburi-tei Don!!! to Kue” in Yamanouchi, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, and shares a first-hand report. Price range: from 800 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!

I’m Binako, a SaruKuma writer who keeps trying (and failing!) to improve her posture.

Today I’m taking you to Yamanouchi in Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, to visit a wonderful little rice bowl shop called “Donburi-tei Don!!! to Kue”.

This donburi (rice bowl) restaurant offers both takeout and dine-in service, and it was bustling with lunchtime customers when I arrived.

Parking is available right in front of the shop, and

also next to it โ€” about 4 to 5 spaces in total.

Inside, you’ll spot loads of One Piece figurines on display. A paradise for One Piece fans!

There’s also a manga collection you can read while enjoying lunch. The best part? They only stock completed series, so you can read each story all the way to the end. How great is that?

Inside the restaurant, there are table seats and

counter seats, plus

a raised tatami-style seating area. They’ve even got baby chairs ready, making this a wonderfully family-friendly spot.

And here’s the takeout menu โ€” perfect for taking back to your hotel or enjoying with family.

You can even choose your rice portion size, which is super handy depending on how hungry you are.

And here’s the most exciting bit โ€” you can swap the rice for tofu!

This is a game-changer for anyone watching their carbs!

This time, I ordered the Chicken Kimchi Bowl (590 yen) with rice swapped for tofu!

Just look at the volume โ€” incredible! Mountains of chicken, kimchi, and fresh vegetables piled high.

Oh my goodness โ€” SO delicious!
The vegetables stay crispy, and the kimchi has just the right amount of kick. I couldn’t put my spoon down!

Underneath, there’s a generous bed of tofu that pairs beautifully with the spicy kimchi and fresh vegetables.

And there are SO many bean sprouts!
That satisfying crunch combined with healthy ingredients is pure bliss.

The chicken is incredibly tender too. Every bite is delicious โ€” and even though it’s super filling, it feels healthy. A perfect choice for those who want a satisfying yet balanced meal!

A One Piece figure quietly watched over me throughout the meal… Thank you, and gochisousama (thanks for the meal)!

Near the register, they also sell baked sweets โ€” perfect for an after-meal treat!

The staff are wonderfully friendly, and the atmosphere is so welcoming. Whether you’re a hungry traveler, a health-conscious diner, or visiting with kids, this is a must-try spot in Kumamoto!
