Introducing Sakurayama Coffee Roaster
Hello travelers! This is Mido, a writer for Sarukuma.
Today we’re heading to Ozu Town in Kumamoto Prefecture to visit
Sakurayama Coffee Roaster.
This stylish café opened on March 15, 2024!
The area was once known as “Sakurayama” (Cherry Blossom Mountain), and when spring rolls around, you can enjoy a beautiful view of cherry trees from inside the shop.
Don’t you love the cute logo?
The exterior is sleek and modern — looks fantastic, doesn’t it?

There’s a spacious parking area right in front of the shop — super convenient if you’re driving.
Through the glass doors, you can catch a glimpse of the lovely interior!
Sakurayama Coffee Roaster is stroller-friendly, and the inside is completely step-free — easy to navigate for families and travelers with luggage!
Table seating lines the right side of the café.
Large windows offer sweeping views of the surrounding scenery.
It was cloudy on the day I visited, so the mountains were a bit hazy, but on a clear day you can see the gorgeous Mt. Aso range in the distance.
Look to the right and you’ll spot the row of cherry trees too — I can’t wait to come back during cherry blossom season!
There’s a hand-washing station too!
You can also purchase the shop’s house-roasted coffee beans to take home.
The wall is lined with bags of beans!
They even sell cold brew kits — perfect for at-home coffee time or as a thoughtful gift to bring back from your trip.
There’s even a corner with locally grown pesticide-free vegetables — definitely worth a look!
Now let’s check out the menu at Sakurayama Coffee Roaster!
【MENU】(All prices include tax)
・Coffee of the Day (HOT) — from ¥450
・Cold Brew (ICED) — ¥500
・Café Latte (HOT/ICED) — ¥550
・Decaf Coffee (HOT) — ¥500
・Apple Juice — ¥300
For the Coffee of the Day, you can choose from three different beans.
On the day I visited, the options were “Colombia (Colombia),” “Mocha Guji (Ethiopia),” and “Santa Rosa (Honduras).”
Each bean comes with a tasting description, and the friendly staff are happy to walk you through the flavor profiles when you order.
The apple juice is 100% pure — perfect if you’re traveling with kids!
And with decaf on the menu, those avoiding caffeine can enjoy a relaxing cup too.
・Blueberry & Cream Cheese Muffin (limited time) — ¥350
・Oreo Muffin — ¥300
Muffins and other sweets rotate with the seasons!
The Oreo muffin is currently a regular menu item, but even that may change in the future.
Take a peek at their Instagram and you’ll see treats like the spring “Sakura Matcha Muffin” — adorable to look at and seriously delicious.
Sakurayama Coffee Roaster is closed on Tuesdays and Fridays, plus occasional irregular days off.

Recommended Menu Items at Sakurayama Coffee Roaster
This time, I tried the ‘Coffee of the Day’ and the ‘Oreo Muffin’!
The mug featuring the shop’s logo is just lovely.
And the muffin looks absolutely irresistible!

For the Coffee of the Day, I went with the “Colombia” bean from Colombia.
It’s described as having rich body with a beautiful balance of acidity and bitterness.
And wow — it’s seriously delicious!!!
The balance of bitterness and acidity is spot-on, making it incredibly easy to drink.
Definitely my kind of coffee!
Now for the muffin. The texture is just right with a gentle sweetness!
Topped with an Oreo, it’s satisfyingly hearty too.
It pairs perfectly with the coffee — alternating sips and bites, my plate was empty before I knew it.
The coffee was so good that I came back again to grab a ‘Café Latte’ to-go!
It arrives in two beautiful layers, so give it a stir before you sip. Equally delicious!

Takeout is available too, which is great if you’re short on time or exploring the area on the go!
It’s just about 2 km from Showa Park (Showa-en), which has playground equipment, so it’s a perfect coffee-break stop after the kids have run around.
Grab a delicious cup of coffee and a sweet treat — you won’t regret it!
