Introducing Cafe&Bar Frappe×Frappe
Hello everyone!
It’s Binako, your SaruKuma writer — currently in the middle of a strange solo challenge to see how long I can survive without turning on the air conditioning!
Today I’m taking you to Ueki, Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, to a charming spot called “Cafe&Bar Frappe×Frappe”.

The bright “Croffle” and “Parfait” flags fluttering outside the shop instantly catch your eye — and even before seeing the food, you can’t help but mutter, “That looks delicious…”

Parking is available right in front of the shop, and…

…there’s also a second lot diagonally across the street.
With plenty of parking, you don’t have to stress about finding a spot — perfect for travelers driving through the area.

Inside, you’ll find three table seats and a counter.
Water is self-serve, located at the back of the shop.

Frappe Frappe has appeared on numerous local Kumamoto TV and radio programs, including Mocchan TV, RKK, Terebitamin, and Radio Mimi-go — clearly a beloved local favorite.
One headline reading something like “It looks like a crime scene!” is impossible to look away from — a hint at just how dramatic the desserts can get.

The neighborhood around Frappe Frappe is dotted with izakaya (Japanese pubs) and other restaurants, and many locals come here in the evening to enjoy it as a Bar.

Heads up: the shop will be closed for interior renovations from June 14–19, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly.
Cafe&Bar Frappe×Frappe Recommended Menu

Wow — the menu is huge!
For an indecisive person like me, this is dangerous territory.
Unlike most kakigori (Japanese shaved ice) shops, Frappe Frappe serves their shaved ice all year round — pretty rare in Japan!

Here are the limited-time melon desserts.
They all look absolutely incredible — just imagining them is enough to spark serious melon cravings!

And here are the limited-edition Pistachio and Oreo flavors.
I’m such a pistachio lover that I’ll happily go out of my way to find pistachio desserts — so this one is definitely on my list.
The Oreo flavor was already sold out by the time I visited — clearly a fan favorite!

The croffles (croissant + waffle) come in over 30 varieties, with daily rotating selections lined up at the counter.
You could come every day and never get bored!

Even better, the kakigori is also available for takeout — so you can dine in or grab it to go, whichever suits your travel plans.

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for —
behold the Mango Milk and Strawberry Milk kakigori!
Can you believe this?
You’ll do a double — even triple — take at the sheer size of these shaved ice mountains.
They’re literally as big as your face!

Here’s an insider tip: the ice used at Frappe Frappe isn’t pre-flavored — they use pure water for the cleanest, freshest flakes.
Even the syrups and condensed milk are handmade in-house, so every bowl is bursting with care and craftsmanship.

With that in mind, let’s dig into the all-time favorite: Strawberry Milk.
One bite and you’ll be amazed.
The syrup is delicious, of course — but the ice itself has a natural sweetness that’s incredible.
It’s so massive that it tends to topple over as you eat — but honestly, that’s part of the fun!

And here’s the Mango Milk, generously topped with juicy mango pieces.
What’s amazing is that you can eat it without any of that classic brain-freeze sting — it just glides down. If you’re visiting with kids, sharing one is the perfect option.
Each bowl comes with a straw so you can sip up the melted goodness at the bottom — meaning you’ll polish it off without leaving a single drop behind.

At first glance, I worried one bowl per person would be way too much…
but the refreshing, light sweetness made it shockingly easy to finish — even after a meal.
With Kumamoto’s hot summers fast approaching, this is the ultimate way to cool down and recharge with a sugar boost. If you’re traveling through Kumamoto, definitely add Frappe Frappe to your bucket list!
