Today I’m excited to introduce a delightful little gem located in Shimotori, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Rishantan Fresh Tapioca Specialty Shop Kumamoto Shimotori”.

Tucked inside the bustling Shimotori shopping arcade, this charming bubble tea shop is a favorite stop for both locals and visitors.
While they currently focus on tapioca drinks, starting in mid-December they’ll also be serving up Japanese-style fried chicken (karaage) and other savory bites!

If you’re like me and crave something salty after enjoying something sweet, this shop is a dream come true — a one-stop spot for both cravings.

The moment you step inside, your eyes are drawn to the giant pots brimming with freshly cooked tapioca pearls.

The sweet, inviting aroma instantly puts a smile on your face!

This time, I went with the
Assam Milk Tea — M ¥550!

I dialed down the sweetness so the rich tea aroma could really shine through —
and wow, it was incredibly smooth and refreshing.

The tapioca pearls themselves had a wonderful chewy bounce and a hint of brown sugar flavor, making each sip absolutely irresistible.

The light, crisp Assam tea pairs beautifully with the rich, sweet tapioca — it’s a match made in heaven that hits all the right notes!
