Meet Ayuhime-san

Hello travelers! I’m Gussan, a writer for [Sarukuma].

Have you heard of [Ayuhime Kuidaore Hourouki] (Ayuhime’s Food Adventure Diary)?
Many locals know her well — she’s an incredible blogger based right here in Kumamoto who has been updating her blog every single day for over 10 years!
The information Ayuhime-san shares covers not only Kumamoto but every corner of the Kyushu region — truly impressive!

She’s also recently active as a “Yahoo! Creator”!
In fact, she’s the only blogger in Kumamoto carrying the official Yahoo! banner.

Updating two blogs daily — this is the kind of feat you’d think requires a ghostwriter or time travel. She’s truly an extraordinary blogger.

Today, Ayuhime-san launched a special collaboration menu with a local restaurant, and I’m thrilled to introduce it to you!

Joining us was the famous Haru-ch from [Lunch Shimasho♪] — another remarkable blogger who has been writing since 2005, balancing family life and work.
She’s truly a senior figure for Sarukuma’s mom writers, and I learn so much from her.
Haru-ch’s [Lunch Shimasho♪] features mom-friendly spots, delicious sweets, and stylish cafes throughout Kumamoto.

I’m lucky enough to have connected with these amazing bloggers through Sarukuma — something I’ve been wanting to share publicly! (laughs)

About Kumamoto Gyoza-ro

Today’s spotlight is on a restaurant located in Chuo-gai, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
[Kumamoto Gyoza-ro].

This is the rebranded version of [Fam Oriental Bistro Cafe], which we’ve previously introduced. And there’s Ayuhime-san already! (laughs)
Let’s head inside.
Menus are displayed inside, and once you’ve decided what you’d like, you pay first at the register next to the counter.
Cash, credit cards, and electronic money are all accepted — convenient for international travelers!
Upstairs on the 2nd floor, you’ll find table seating.
On the right, there’s a traditional Japanese-style raised tatami zashiki seating area.
While the table itself isn’t very large, it’s perfect for families with babies who haven’t started crawling yet — a wonderful chance to experience authentic Japanese floor seating!
Children’s chairs (high chairs) are also available.
There are also comfortable sofa-style seats — great for sitting next to your kids.
At Kumamoto Gyoza-ro, you can enjoy gyoza with three signature condiments:
spicy miso, rock salt, and vinegar soy sauce. (Of course, try them plain first to taste the natural flavor!)
The lunch set menu offers a wonderful variety.
Everything looks tempting, so the best way to choose is by the portion size that matches your appetite that day. The aged roast beef bowl set also looks irresistible!

Recommended Menu at Kumamoto Gyoza-ro

Here’s what we came for!
Aso Takana & Stone-Grilled Braised Pork Rice + Pan-Fried Gyoza Set: “Higo Teishoku” (1,280 yen, tax included)
This is the Ayuhime × Kumamoto Gyoza-ro collaboration menu, limited to just 10 servings per day!
The set comes with stone-grilled braised pork rice, pan-fried gyoza, miso soup, and a side dish. You can swap the miso soup for a salad if you prefer.
Want both? Add 150 yen and enjoy them together!
Just look at this — doesn’t it look incredible? It tastes even better than it looks!
This hearty stone-grilled rice features Aso takana (pickled mustard greens) and a soft-boiled egg.
Even though I’m not usually a fan of fatty braised pork, this version is perfectly tender — easily breaks apart with a spoon, yet not greasy at all.
Served piping hot in a stone bowl, it stays sizzling from the first bite to the last!
The crispy okoge (rice crust) and Aso takana add wonderful texture and flavor accents.
The seasoning is well-balanced — not too strong, but rich and deeply satisfying. A truly moving collaboration of umami flavors!
The set’s signature “hane-tsuki” gyoza (with a beautiful crispy lace skirt).
Lunchtime gyoza here is made without garlic or chives — perfect for a midday meal even before going back to work, and easy to share with kids.
From left to right: spicy miso, rock salt, and vinegar soy sauce — change up the flavors as you go!
The wrappers are substantial — crispy on the outside, mochi-mochi (chewy) on the inside. Truly delicious gyoza!

The “Ayuhime × Kumamoto Gyoza-ro” collaboration menu we introduced today,

The Higo Teishoku is the perfect summer meal for boosting stamina! Don’t miss your chance to try it during your visit to Kumamoto!
