Hanatsubomi: An Introduction to the Restaurant
Hello there!
This is Maru, your SaruKuma writer ππ
Today I’d like to introduce a restaurant tucked away in Obiyama, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto City:
“Hanatsubomi”.
βοΈ Lunch service runs in two seatings: 11:30 and 13:00.
Meal time is limited to one hour, so please keep that in mind.
It’s a popular spot, so reservations are highly recommended!

You’ll find Hanatsubomi along Kokutai Road, near the Japanese Red Cross Hospital (Nisseki Byoin).
The parking lot is right next to the restaurant ππ¨, but spaces are limited, so carpooling is a good idea.

You’ll take off your shoes at the entrance β a traditional Japanese touch β and settle into horigotatsu seating (a sunken floor table that lets you stretch your legs comfortably).
Every room is a fully partitioned private room β

The Hanatsubomi Special Chazuke Set: 1,800 yen. (You can choose your main from three options!)
β
Premium Beef Steak Chazuke Set
β
Luxurious Conger Eel Tempura Chazuke Set
β
Fresh Seafood Chazuke Set
(Each set comes with a seasonal appetizer plate, chawanmushi steamed egg custard, pickles, a drink, and dessert.)
The fun part? You enjoy it first as a donburi (rice bowl), then transform it into ochazuke β savory rice with green tea broth poured over it β for a whole new flavor (^O^)
Hanatsubomi: Recommended Menu
This restaurant is famous for its Beef Steak Chazuke Set, but this time we tried the other two options! (^^)

First up β the appetizer plate.
Wow! All this just for the appetizer (οΎβοΎ)‴οΈοΈβ€΄οΈοΈ β it’s hard not to gasp!
Each little bite was a delight π

The whole-onion soup was tender and soothingly delicious β pure comfort in a bowl (^^)

And here it is β the Luxurious Conger Eel Tempura Chazuke Set.
HUGE. Absolutely jaw-dropping!!!
The photo doesn’t quite do it justice, but the impact is incredible (οΎβοΎ)!!!
The tempura is stacked sky-high on top of the rice bowl β it must be about 30 centimeters tall (lol).

Look at that β the conger eel is standing perfectly upright π plus shrimp and a vegetable kakiage fritter piled on top!
The eel was incredibly fluffy and absolutely delicious β¨

I wondered if I could even finish such a generous portion, but by saving the kakiage to top off my chazuke at the end, I slurped it all down with ease π
Come hungry β you won’t regret it (^O^)

And here’s the Fresh Seafood Chazuke Set!
Wow β what a beautiful plate π
You get an assortment of fresh sashimi, each piece prepared with a thoughtful chef’s touch β¨ and the portion is seriously generous.
And of course, at the end you pile on the condiments, pour over the Japanese-style dashi broth, and enjoy it all over again as seafood ochazuke.
Two ways to enjoy one dish β the ultimate luxury π

To finish, we enjoyed coffee and a refreshing cocktail jelly dessert.
Since you’ve only got an hour, save the long chats for later and dive into a deeply satisfying meal instead.
Next time, I’m definitely going for the Beef Steak Chazuke Set οΌΌ(^o^)οΌ
