Introducing Flying Tiger Copenhagen
Hello there! It’s Kurubushi, a writer for [SaruKuma]β彑
Today I’m taking you to Flying Tiger Copenhagen, located inside AEON Mall Kumamoto in Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District.
[Flying Tiger Copenhagen] is a Danish lifestyle and variety goods brand from Northern Europe, packed with adorable, irresistibly fun items that make you want to pick up everything in sight.
And here’s the surprise β did you know you can actually try a real shopkeeper job experience here?

Once a month, the store hosts a special event called “Kids Job Day” β a real workplace experience for children ^^
Through tasks like working the register and stocking shelves, kids get a hands-on lesson in how the working world operates.
It’s typically held on the fourth Saturday of each month.
Here’s what you need to know to apply:
β One child aged 3β6 with one parent/guardian
β Limited to 2 pairs (one child + one guardian per pair; siblings cannot apply together)
β Participation is free
β Children receive a 1,000 yen gift voucher as their “salary” after the experience!
Details and applications are available on the official Flying Tiger website.
You’ll need to send your name, contact info, and a heartfelt message about why you love Flying Tiger. (I adore this shop, so I sent an embarrassingly long message β lol.)
By the way, since the event is still relatively new, applicant numbers are reportedly low at the momentβ¦!
Now is your chance!!!!
Why We Recommend Flying Tiger Copenhagen
Ta-da!!

After clocking in, the first step is changing into the official staff shirt.
How cute is the store mascot, Mr. T (Mister Tea)?
Kids also receive a name tag sticker β and the friendly staff write the names in the most adorable handwriting.
Fun fact: when working at Flying Tiger, you must wear a costume!
So my daughter sported a princess tiara βͺ

She was still pretty shy and kept hiding behind me (lol).
I was a bit worried about how this would goβ¦

In the back room, the staff briefed everyone on the day’s schedule and held a quick self-introduction session.
My daughter was still squirming during introductions,
but when it came time to practice saying “Irasshaimase!” (Welcome!), she suddenly belted it out loud and clear.
I felt a wave of pride at her growth in that moment.

Each child is paired with a dedicated staff member who guides them throughout the experience.
First up: a tour of the shop ^^

“This product is used like this~” they explain, kindly getting down to the kids’ eye level for every single item. So sweet!

Once the store tour wrapped up, it was time to start working!
“We’ve got plenty of items ready for you~!” they cheered, and her face lit up with excitement.
By this point, she’d already become best friends with the staff,
and she barely noticed Mom standing nearby anymore (lol).
So this is what it feels like watching them gain independence~ (sniff, so moving!)

Next, the kids stock products on the shelves throughout the store.
“Where do you think this one goes~?” the staff prompted, turning it into a fun quiz game.

Finding the right spot and arranging the display β look at that beaming smile!

For the trickier spots, the staff lend a helping hand.

As she got the hang of it, she started having fun arranging items together with neighboring products too.

She managed to balance the layout beautifully, even with so many items.

Having a blast the whole way through, she stocked all four baskets of merchandise in no time at all ^^
That wraps up part one.
After a short break, it’s on to register duty.

First, practice scanning barcodes ^^
The actual cash handling is taken care of by the staff.

Participants are responsible for scanning barcodes and applying stickers.

Just as she was getting comfortable, an actual customer arrived (lol).
Could she handle it?

Looks like she nailed it ^^
Even my son cheekily got in on the shopping experience (lol).

After that, she got to assist real customers throughout the rest of the shift.
I watched anxiously from the sidelines, but seeing my normally super-shy daughter β who usually struggles to even greet people β confidently say,
“Irasshaimase~ Arigatou gozaimashita~” (Welcome~ Thank you very much~)
to actual customers brought tears to my eyes. T_T

At the end, the kids receive a certificate of accomplishment
and their 1,000 yen gift voucher ^^
How exciting it is to go shopping with the very first paycheck you earned yourself!

She made friends with the other kid participants and the lovely staff, then everyone gathered for a commemorative photo βͺ
“I want to keep working here~!!” she said happily ^^
By the way, this mom stayed quietly in the shadows the whole time, so my legs were exhausted by the end (lol). Clearly out of shape!
There’s so much both kids and parents can learn through an early career experience like this.
It was a wonderful chance to think about new ideas, and to seriously reflect on what it means to earn β and spend β money!
If you’re even a little curious, why not apply through the Flying Tiger website?
