Introducing Shiroyama Park
Hello travelers! This is Aikero, writer for [SaruKuma].
Today I’m excited to introduce a local gem located in Shiroyama-Handa, Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City
[Shiroyama Park].
Tucked away near the Seibu Environmental Plant, this is a wonderful park where even the tiniest visitors can play with peace of mind! βͺ
The park is divided into clear zones, complete with baby swings and a small slide perfect for toddlers.
There’s also a parking lot, large play structures, and a wide-open field where kids can run freely β what more could you ask for? (^^)/
Our fellow writer Asuka also covered this park in a previous article! β©
Here’s the parking lot.
It’s located just off the intersection by Sanwa Clinic.
It’s also right next to the play equipment β super convenient!
According to the park map, several parking lots surround the park, so you don’t need to worry about it filling up.
The restrooms are located in the center of the park.
The multipurpose restroom is equipped with a diaper-changing station β a real lifesaver for parents traveling with babies.
The restrooms are clean and well-maintained, so even shy little ones shouldn’t feel intimidated using them.
Right next to the restrooms is a covered rest area.
Since there isn’t much natural shade, having a roof is wonderful β especially for sunny Kyushu days!
There’s another rest area on the parking lot side, too.
There are plenty of benches scattered around, so you don’t even need to bring a picnic blanket! β©
Note: bicycles are not permitted on the jogging course that loops around the park.
The play equipment area and the open field are nicely separated.
The field is the perfect spot for running around or playing ball games (^^)/
Top Highlights of Shiroyama Park

The first thing that catches your eye is this big play structure.
Can you tell from the picture?
That slide has a surprisingly steep drop!
I went down with my son, and even as an adult I needed a little courage! Haha.
Once you’ve made it down the first time, you might just be hooked!
Kids can climb up using rope nets or scale a bouldering wall β there’s so much to keep them moving!
These kinds of activities are great for building core strength!
There are also monkey bars β though they’re a bit of a challenge for younger children!
For the little ones, this area is the perfect choice!
There’s a separate play zone for small children, completely surrounded by a fence.
Fenced-in toddler areas are surprisingly rare, so this is a real plus.
Kojima Park, just about 5 minutes away, also has a similar fenced toddler zone! β©
A small slide that little ones can use on their own.
A bucket-style baby swing with a seat β safe and parent-approved!
There are also classic spring riders.
The toddler area also has benches!
Great for setting down bags and keeping a watchful eye on the little ones.
And the restrooms are right nearby β so convenient.
There’s even more fun to discover throughout the park.
Here are the swings.
And over by the parking lot, I spotted something a little different.
These are fitness machines for adults! Haha.
Grip the top handles and you can do a cycling-style workout.
Why not get in a little exercise yourself while keeping an eye on the kids? β©
It’s a little hard to tell, but there’s a small hill here too!
Just climbing it gives kids a different view, and they tend to love it.
You also get a clear view of the iconic red-and-white smokestack of the Seibu Environmental Plant.
Though it’s a cozy, small-scale park, it’s absolutely perfect for families with young children (^^)/
It would also be a great spot for kite-flying in winter!
For those quick “let’s just go play for a bit” moments, the convenient parking lot makes Shiroyama Park an easy choice (^^)/
