Welcome to Tsumugido
Hello, travelers! It’s Mofumofu, your SaruKuma writer.
Today I’m taking you to Jonan, Minami Ward, Kumamoto City, to a delightful little spot called
【Tsumugido (つむぎ堂)】.
This cozy shop opened its doors on Friday, November 17, 2023!

My mom kept raving, “Their botamochi is amazing!” — so I started stalking them on Instagram, drooling over every post. Finally, the day came!! I got my hands on Tsumugido’s legendary botamochi (sweet rice cakes wrapped in red bean paste). Dream come true ♡

Meet the shop’s adorable mascot CEO, Tsumugi ♡
I happened to visit on Christmas Day, so the little one greeted me in a darling holiday outfit! Too cute for words ♡

For parking, you’re welcome to use any spot on the gravel lot in front of the shop ♪
BUT…
Please don’t park smack in the middle like I accidentally did 🤣 Be considerate of other guests!
Tsumugido’s Must-Try Menu

The legendary Tsumugido botamochi ♡
I literally couldn’t stop drooling. This is the Mini Botamochi 3-piece set!

I bought them around lunchtime and ate them in the evening — and they were still incredibly soft and pillowy!

Seriously, soooo delicious!!
They pair perfectly with hot green tea! (Although I’m a milk girl, personally.)

And here come the pies! ★
If they’ve cooled down, pop them in the microwave first, then crisp them up in the oven for that perfect flaky texture.
Each bag has a sticker showing what’s inside, so you’ll never mix them up.

Gratin Pie ★
Everything was incredible, but my personal champion is the Gratin Pie!! It’s already amazing at room temperature, but warm it up and the inside turns wonderfully gooey — pure comfort food magic.

Botamochi Pie ★
Believe it or not, an entire pillowy botamochi is tucked inside this pie! I couldn’t snap a photo, but the Sweet Potato Pie and Apple Pie were also seriously delicious ♡

Kanzuke (Winter-Dried Pickled Daikon) ★
This one is dangerous — your bowl of rice will disappear in seconds! It also makes the perfect crunchy snack to pair with a drink.
The owner grows the daikon and cold-dries it all by herself, so production is limited. Snag one if you’re lucky!

Tsumugido closes once the day’s batch sells out, so reserving in advance is highly recommended ♪
I’ll definitely be back for more botamochi and Gratin Pie ♡
