Hello, fellow travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for “Sarukuma.”
Today I’m excited to introduce a wonderful spot in Nishimachi, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture:
Moo Moo Farm Takehara Bokujo (Takehara Ranch).
The ranch is located right next to ‘Fruit Country COUPLES’, which we previously introduced.

Here’s the parking lot.

These are the rules and requests from the ranch. Sorry that the tree shadows make the signs a bit hard to read in the photo!
And get this โ admission is completely FREE!!! (Some hands-on activities have a fee.)
Restrooms are available, but please note there is no diaper-changing station.
Auto camping is also available here!
Why We Recommend This Spot
The biggest highlight is how up-close and personal you can get with the animals.
Cows
Ponies
Goats and mini pigs were there too!
And you can pet the dogs directly!
My son was thrilled to give the dogs a good pat โ he absolutely adores them!
Animal feed is sold for just 100 yen, so you can feed the animals too!
He was so timid feeding them…
Way too scared, lol!
There are also paid hands-on activities available!
They sell soft-serve ice cream made from milk freshly produced by the ranch’s own cows!
Rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious!!!
Why does ice cream taste even better when you eat it at the ranch itself?
There are cute frog statues to spot…
And we even got to gather acorns!
Our animal-loving family had an absolutely wonderful time here!
If you love both camping and farm experiences, ‘Moo Moo Farm Takehara Bokujo’ is highly recommended!
It also pairs perfectly with a fruit-picking trip to the neighbor!
