A SaruKuma writer visits Uguisubaru Park in Hanatate, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, and shares a firsthand report. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello there!
This is Rikotama, a writer for SaruKuma!

Today I’d love to introduce you to
Hanatate, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, where you’ll find
Uguisubaru Park!

The park is located near Sunny Sakuragi Store and Ikkyu Honpo, the popular sweets shop we’ve previously featured on SaruKuma (*^-^*)

When I visited, locals were already enjoying a round of ground golf in the morning!

The grounds are nice and spacious!

There’s one covered bench like this!

Plus several regular benches scattered around the park β˜†

Here are the restrooms!

Heads up: there’s no diaper-changing station (>_<)

For play equipment, there are swings!

Horizontal bars in three sizes β€” large, medium, and small!

Spring-rocker rides for toddlers!

They face each other, so kids can play together β™‘

It’s a little hard to see, but there’s also a square sandbox β™ͺ

You’ll also find a seesaw and a slide!

Highlights We Recommend

There’s also a fun combination playset (≧▽≦)!

And the best part β€” kids can play pretend shop!!

When my own child was around two years old,
they loved arranging flowers, leaves, and stones to play “shop” (*^β–½^*)

We actually played with this kind of equipment a few years ago in Fukuoka,
but this is the first time I’ve seen one in Kumamoto City!!

Since there’s also a sandbox, kids can pretend to run a dango (Japanese sweet dumpling) shop too β˜†
β€»And since Ikkyu Honpo is right nearby, why not pair pretend dango with the real thing? (*^-^*)

The play equipment is still relatively new, so everything looks beautifully clean and well-maintained ♬

Be sure to stop by for a visit!
