t.tarte – A New Fruit Tart Specialty Shop in Tsukide, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto with a Melt-in-Your-Mouth Texture!
2024.11.13

A Sarukuma writer visits t.tarte in Tsukide, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City, and shares a hands-on report. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access details, and opening hours.
Introducing t.tarte
Hello there, travelers! I’m Aikero, a writer for Sarukuma.
Today I’m excited to share a wonderful new spot in Tsukide, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto City:
t.tarte.
When I heard a tart specialty shop was opening on Kenritsudai-dori in Tsukide, Higashi-ku, I just had to visit during the pre-opening period!
The grand opening is set for November 14, 2024!
What makes this place special is that it’s not your typical cake shop — it’s a specialty store dedicated to baked sweets and seasonal fruit tarts!
Let me start by telling you how to find it (^^)/
Turn from Kokutai-dori onto Kenritsudai-dori, and you’ll spot the shop on your right just past the west gate.
Nearby is the lovely Ishigama Pan Koubou Moisson, a stone-oven bakery that Sarukuma writer Binako-san previously featured — perfect for breakfast bread!
Ishigama Pan Koubou Moisson – A Cozy Stone-Oven Bakery to Relax At! (Tsukide, Higashi-ku, Kumamoto)
The shop is on the first floor of a two-story building.
There’s a staircase right in the middle of the building, and t.tarte sits just past it — easy to walk right by, so keep your eyes peeled!
(From the front, the layout goes: t.tarte | staircase | another shop. Hope that paints the picture!)
There’s parking for four cars right in front of the shop.
Step inside and you’re greeted by a beautiful tart display case right ahead.
The dim, atmospheric interior makes the jewel-like fruit tarts sparkle — so chic!
To the right, you’ll find a baked-goods gift corner.
Next year, dine-in service will also be available — something to look forward to!
The interior is barrier-free with a flat floor, so strollers can roll right in (^^)/
The selection is still growing, but even now I had a feeling I wouldn’t be able to choose just one!
Since the owner makes everything herself, quantities are limited and items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they run out.
Please note that throughout November, no reservations or holds are accepted via phone or Instagram DM.
Because the tarts feature seasonal fruits, the lineup changes depending on when you visit.
I’d recommend checking t.tarte’s Instagram before you head over (^^)/
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for!
Here’s the lineup from the day of my visit ♫
· Domestic Strawberry Tart (loaded with strawberries) – ¥880
· Strawberry Shortcake Tart – ¥540
Calling all strawberry lovers!
Strawberry season is finally here o(*’ω’*)o
· Orange & Chocolate Tart – ¥640
· Chocolate Shortcake & Pistachio Tart – ¥540
· Kumamoto-Grown Candied Chestnut & Almond Mont Blanc – ¥760
I love them all, so picking is genuinely tough (>_<) lol
· Shine Muscat & Cheese Fromage Tart – ¥760
· La France Pear Cream Tart – ¥650
The fruit is piled high — irresistible (#^.^#)
· Persimmon & Cheese Cream Tart – ¥640
These would also make wonderful souvenirs or gifts — guaranteed to delight whoever receives them!
Baked sweets are also sold here, but during my visit, only the special opening gift sets were available.
· Opening Gift Set, 5 pieces – ¥1,300
· Opening Gift Set, 7 pieces – ¥2,100
Includes Financier Churros, Financier Chocolat, Financier Espresso, Financier Pistachio, and Financier d’Amande
t.tarte – Recommended Menu
Mmm — they all look so good!
Classic me — there are three of us eating cake, and somehow I always end up buying four because I can’t decide ( ̄▽ ̄) lol
When I asked the owner for a recommendation, she said, “The persimmon is wonderful, but from here on, strawberry is the star.”
So for my strawberry-loving daughter, I picked the Domestic Strawberry Tart!
For myself, I went with my favorite combo — the Chocolate Shortcake & Pistachio Tart!
My husband eats just about anything, so I (sneakily) chose what *I* wanted to try — the Persimmon & Cheese Cream Tart and the Kumamoto-Grown Candied Chestnut & Almond Mont Blanc.
“We use fruit that local farmers have lovingly grown,” the owner shared. “I hope our tarts bring a moment of happiness to whoever eats them.”
She herself is passionate about the marriage of fruit and tart.
The cream is crafted to match each fruit, but the true stars are always the fruit and the tart.
While we were chatting, I didn’t quite grasp what she meant by “the fruit and tart are the leads” — but the moment I took my first bite, it all clicked.
The persimmon and tart melted together in my mouth in a totally new and surprising way!
The crisp tart, juicy fruit, and gently sweet cream that brings everything together — the balance was so beautifully done that I was genuinely moved…!
Don’t get me wrong — the tart isn’t soft.
It’s properly baked with a satisfying crispness.
You know how tart shells usually have such a strong texture that they really stand out in your mouth?
The tarts at t.tarte are completely different!
You get the softness of the fruit and the crisp tart shell at the same time.
And yet, the tart doesn’t linger on its own — everything comes together as one in your mouth, harmonizing beautifully…
I’m no tart expert, but I’ve never tasted a tart with this kind of texture before!
When my daughter got home, she dug right in with a big bite ♪
The strawberries were nearly as big as her mouth — she was thrilled (●^o^●)
That smile says it all (*^^)b
Well, I saw that coming…(;^ω^)
Paired with soft cake and what I think was pistachio mousse, the combination was spot-on!
That crisp-yet-crumbly tart texture is something you really have to taste for yourself (>_<)
The shop hasn’t appeared on Google Maps yet, but customers were already streaming in throughout the pre-opening period (^^)/
If you enter the address into Google Maps, it’ll guide you right to the shop ♪
Because the fruit changes with the seasons, t.tarte is the kind of place that makes you want to come back year-round to enjoy whatever’s in season.
Do come and experience this brand-new texture born from the marriage of fruit and tart!
One bite and you’ll be hooked — I promise (●^o^●)
