A Sarukuma writer’s firsthand visit to “Teppanyaki Nakaya” in Soryo, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District. Price range: from 1,000 yen. Includes family-friendly tips, access, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!
This is Ayu-Mama, writer for “Sarukuma”!

On weekends, our family almost always ends up enjoying noodle dishes for lunch.
And today, I’m excited to share another delicious noodle spot with you!
Today’s spotlight is on a wonderful restaurant located in Soryo, Mashiki Town, Kamimashiki District:
【Teppanyaki Nakaya】!
Fun fact: this restaurant was originally part of the “Mashiki Recovery Market & Yatai Village,” a food village built in Mashiki Town after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake!
Located along Prefectural Route Takamori (Kendo Takamori-sen), you’ll find the restaurant right next to a FamilyMart convenience store, with the Bank of Kumamoto directly across the street. It’s an easy spot to find!
Parking is available right in front of the restaurant for several cars.
Inside, you’ll find a mix of comfortable table seating and
counter seats — perfect if you want to watch the chefs in action.
And here’s the exciting part — the counter is lined with photos and autographs from many Japanese celebrities who have dined here! Truly impressive!
The friendly female staff warmly welcomed us, even with our little one in tow!
The menu is impressively diverse — and best of all, very affordable!
They even serve Fujinomiya Yakisoba, a famous regional stir-fried noodle dish from Shizuoka!
You’ll also find rice dishes and à la carte options!
There are lunch set menus available, too!
What really caught my attention was this gem:
‘Choi-Nomi Set’ (Light Drinking Set) — 1,000 yen
An alcoholic drink, snacks, and a teppanyaki dish — all for just 1,000 yen!
What an incredible deal!
Takeout is also available!

Recommended Menu Items

I went back and forth between okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) and yakisoba,
but in the end, I had to go with the classic — sauce yakisoba!
So I ordered the Sauce Yakisoba (550 yen)!
For just an extra 100 yen, you can upgrade to a large size, so I got the large portion to share with my son.
The staff happily allowed us to share the dish with our child.
For families traveling with kids, this kind of flexibility means so much!
Just look at this portion!
The large size really delivers serious volume!
It even comes with a clear soup (osuimono)!
And they kindly served an extra soup for my son too!
Such wonderful service!
The sweet and savory sauce coats the noodles beautifully, delivering a comforting, nostalgic flavor!
The “niku-kasu” (crispy fried pork bits) mixed in added a delicious accent that made every bite even better!
And the touch of mayonnaise on the side was a delightful bonus!
The food came out quickly, so my hungry son didn’t have to wait long, and he gobbled it up in no time!
And on the way out, the staff even gave my son a complimentary candy as a sweet treat!
Next time, I’m definitely coming back to try that 1,000-yen Choi-Nomi Set!
(Though I have a feeling “light drinking” might turn into something more, haha!)
