Introducing Takase Uragawa Mizugiwa Greenery Park

Today I’m taking you to a beautiful spot located in Takase, Tamana City, Kumamoto Prefecture—
“Takase Uragawa Mizugiwa Greenery Park”.

Japanese iris (hanashobu) season is just around the corner!
Let me share this seasonal favorite of mine—the spectacular irises at Takase Uragawa Mizugiwa Greenery Park (^o^)/

There’s a small parking area near the park itself, but if you head down toward the river, you’ll find a much larger lot with plenty of spaces for dozens of cars (*^^*)

Even the parking area is dressed up with cheerful yellow and orange marigolds in bloom! \(^o^)/

Restrooms are conveniently located inside Takase Uragawa Mizugiwa Greenery Park (^-^)

There are plenty of benches scattered throughout, perfect for visitors who want to sit back and admire the flowers at a relaxed pace!

You’ll also find grassy areas, ideal for laying down a picnic blanket and taking your time (^-^)v

There’s even a covered rest area to escape the sun (*^^*)

A handwashing station sits on the grassy plaza between the covered rest area and the restrooms.

There are quite a few stairs, but ramps are available too—so families with strollers can visit with peace of mind (^-^)v

There were also signs reminding visitors about infection prevention measures.

Why You Should Visit Takase Uragawa Mizugiwa Greenery Park

Since I’m sharing this a bit ahead of season, here’s how the park is looking right now (^o^;)

The grounds were being tended to during my visit, so it looks like we’re in for another magnificent display of Japanese irises this year (*^^*)

When the irises hit peak bloom from mid-May through June,
the park bursts into a stunning display of purple, white, and yellow blossoms \(^o^)/

Wooden walkways stretch across the shallow stream, letting you stroll right alongside the irises (⌒0⌒)/~~

This bridge has such a lovely, traditional charm to it!

You’ll spot several beautiful stone bridges like this one throughout the park (^^)

There’s even a Meganebashi (“spectacles bridge”)—a classic Japanese-style stone arch bridge (^^)

Cross over the Meganebashi and you’ll find USAGIYA, a sweet shop that’s been featured on Sarukuma before \(^o^)/

The shallow water is home to water striders, pond snails, and small crabs—my kids were honestly more excited about those than the flowers (^^;

Walk past the Meganebashi and you’ll come across a section filled with bright yellow blossoms too (*^^*)

Since my kids are still little, I’ve only ever visited during the day—but I’ve heard the park is illuminated at night, offering a completely different kind of beauty (^^)
