Hello there!
This is Ayu-mama, writer for “SaruKuma”!
Today, I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Ono, Hikawa Town, Yatsushiro County—
Ryuhoku Park (竜北公園)!
It’s one of our family’s favorite parks, and we visit often!
Ryuhoku Park sits along National Route 3, directly across from Michi-no-Eki Ryuhoku (a roadside station perfect for picking up local goods).
Here’s the parking lot.

You’ll find vending machines conveniently placed in the parking area, too.
Inside the Walking Center, there’s a restroom equipped with—
a diaper-changing station, and—
a baby seat. Perfect for traveling parents!
There’s also an outdoor stage for events, a wide open plaza, and spectator seating!
You’ll even find fitness equipment, making this a park where visitors of all ages can have fun.
There are several drinking water fountains throughout the park.
Plenty of benches are scattered around for resting,
and there’s a second restroom (note: this one doesn’t have a diaper-changing station).

Top Highlights of Ryuhoku Park

Without a doubt, the must-try attractions are—
The 126-meter “Red Dragon” Roller Slide, and—
The “Green Dragon” Bouldering Wall.
First up: the Red Dragon Roller Slide!
It’s so long, it doesn’t even fit in a single photo!
But before you race to the top, there’s one essential thing you need to do!
Stop by the Walking Center I mentioned earlier and borrow a sliding mat for the Red Dragon—it’s free of charge!
Trust me—grab one before heading up!
Why? Because to ride the Red Dragon, you’ll need to climb a seriously steep slope all the way to the top.
If you forget the mat, you’ll have to trudge back down, borrow one, and tackle that brutal climb all over again—or sacrifice your bottom on a painful 126-meter slide. (Yes, I’m speaking from experience…)
So, let me say it one more time:
Borrow the mat first!
Once you’ve got your mat and made the climb, slide down to your heart’s content!
The view from the top is spectacular, and the thrill of zooming down a super-long roller slide is absolutely unbeatable!
Next up: the Green Dragon Bouldering Wall!
This one’s also a huge hit with the kids!
A guaranteed workout for arms and legs alike!
Pro tip: grab a bento lunch from Michi-no-Eki Ryuhoku just across the road, enjoy a picnic, and spend the whole day having fun with the family!
