Welcome to Nakayoshi Park

Hello, travelers!
I’m Ayu-mama, a writer for Saru-Kuma.

Today I’m taking you to a charming little spot in Kubota, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District,

【Nakayoshi Park】!

What a wonderfully heartwarming name for a park!
The name \”Nakayoshi\” means \”good friends\” in Japanese — likely a wish that all children can play here together as friends!

Let me show you around this lovely little gem called 【Nakayoshi Park】!
The park is located right across from ‘Fujichiku’, a shop famous for basashi (Kumamoto’s signature horse sashimi).
Fujichiku’s cattle barns are nearby too, and the area is surrounded by rice paddies — a peaceful, rural setting that feels truly Japanese.
Right when you enter, you’ll find restrooms and a drinking fountain.
There’s a bench right next to it — perfect for a quick rest.
Is this a baseball field, perhaps?
A spacious ground stretches out before you…
…and then there’s another open play area too!
Two whole open spaces — what a treat!

Why You’ll Love Nakayoshi Park

The play equipment here is wonderfully retro — classic Showa-era concrete structures that you don’t see often anymore.
First up — a colorful collection of giant concrete pipes!
(My son is hiding inside one. Can you spot him?)
These pipes are absolutely perfect for a game of hide-and-seek!
You’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into Super Mario Bros.!
Note to self: next time, wear a red shirt and denim overalls for the full effect (lol)!
Next, there’s a large yellow concrete play structure.
Older kids can practice their balance by walking across the top like a balance beam! (Please supervise younger children carefully.)
Smaller children will have fun crawling through and peeking out of the round and square holes underneath!
Here’s a combo structure with a slide and monkey bars.
This one has that lovely Showa-retro charm too — full of character ^_^
There are swings too.
Brand-new playgrounds are nice, but there’s something special about these nostalgic concrete pieces — I absolutely love them (≧∀≦)
If you’d like to experience some old-school Japanese park nostalgia, this is the place for you ♪
