Welcome to Hanazono Children’s Center

Hello travelers! This is Asukarando, writer for [Sarukuma].

Today I’m introducing a wonderful local gem in Hanazono, Nishi-ku, Kumamoto City:
[Hanazono Children’s Center (Hanazono Jidoukan)].

Here’s a quick overview of Hanazono Children’s Center!

Play hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Open days: Tuesday – Sunday

Who can play: babies, toddlers, and elementary school children

Since elementary-age kids are welcome too, this is the perfect spot for families with siblings of different ages to enjoy together. Let me show you around (^-^)v

There are parking lots both in front of and behind the building.

A gentle ramp leads up to the entrance, making stroller access smooth and easy.
Strollers can’t go inside the building, but staff confirmed you can leave them by the entrance (^^)

Following Japanese custom, you take off your shoes at the entrance and place them in the shoe rack.

Then grab your name tag, place a sticker on today’s date, and pop the tag back into its case.
After that, you’re free to play! \(^_^)(^_^)/

The restrooms are located in the hallway.

A diaper-changing table is set up inside the tatami-style library room.

And here’s the cozy library room itself.

Top Highlights of Hanazono Children’s Center

Check out this huge play hall!!

Shelves line both side walls, neatly displaying baby toys and more.

And these aren’t the only toys available!
If you stop by the office, they have a catalog with photos of additional toys — just request what you’d like, and the staff will bring it out for you!

My daughter chose the Popo-chan doll picnic set!
She spent ages happily caring for her Popo-chan doll (^-^)v

There’s also a play kitchen / pretend-play corner (^^)

Activities for elementary school kids are showcased on the walls too.

House rules are posted on the wall.
Please note: handheld game consoles and trading cards are not allowed.

There’s an outdoor playground too! (^-^)v
Just remember to check in at the front desk before heading outside (^^)

The grassy yard features a slide, sandbox, and pull-up bar.

Sandbox toys are provided on-site, so you don’t have to bring your own — and the sandbox is covered with a tarp after closing to keep it clean from animals, so you can play with peace of mind (^-^)v

There are unicycles and tricycles too! It’s wonderful that there’s something to suit each stage of your child’s development.

And kids’ all-time favorite — plenty of acorns scattered around the grounds!

My kids had a blast collecting acorns and playing pretend in the sandbox (^^)

Bringing siblings of different ages here was a breeze — both kids found their own activities, which was such a relief from a parent’s perspective (^-^)v
Since Hanazono Children’s Center welcomes kids all the way through elementary school, I highly recommend it for visiting families! \(^_^)(^_^)/
