Introducing Meister Haus
Hello travelers! It’s Maru, your friendly writer from [Sarukuma] 🌼
Today I’m excited to introduce a hidden gem located in Kawayo, Minamiaso Village
[Meister Haus]

Conveniently located near Aso Farm Land and the Yoshoumei Museum, this restaurant may already be familiar to many. It serves authentic German cuisine prepared by a certified German Meister (master craftsman) 🇩🇪

Take a closer look at the exterior wall and you’ll discover a charming Grimm’s fairy tale scene painted on the walls 🥰 See if you can guess which fairy tale it depicts!

Parking is available right next to the restaurant.

As soon as you step inside, you’ll find a wonderful selection of authentic German hams, sausages, and other delicious items perfect for souvenirs.

The interior feels bright, clean, and welcoming. There’s even a stylish fireplace adding a cozy European touch.

Some tables feature comfortable sofa seating. While there are no standalone children’s chairs, Bumbo baby seats are available upon request—great news for families with little ones!

The terrace seats offer breathtaking views of the Aso mountains—the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing breeze with your meal.

Here’s the menu. There’s no dedicated kids’ menu, so families typically share dishes among themselves.
Highlights include Akaushi (Japanese Brown Beef) sirloin steak and hamburg steak!

Akaushi beef stew and curry are also on the menu!

Their signature sausages and hams look absolutely irresistible!

You’ll also find Akaushi roast beef salad and traditional German pretzels.

Don’t miss the Schnitzel—a German classic limited to just 10 servings per day!
Recommended Dishes at Meister Haus

First up, the Akaushi Beef Stew at 1,800 yen (served with bread and salad).
The Akaushi beef has been slow-simmered to perfection, melting tenderly in your mouth 🥰 So warming and comforting!

Next, the Schnitzel at 2,000 yen (served with bread and soup).
When it arrived at the table, I was stunned—the schnitzel is literally as big as my face! 😆😆

Fun fact: this dish was personally recommended by the curator of the nearby Yoshoumei Museum (also featured on Sarukuma). It’s the perfect lunch to enjoy after exploring the museum ✨
For the most authentic experience, try it the German way—with a dollop of marmalade jam. A squeeze of lemon also gives it a refreshing zing 😋

Each lunch set comes with two pieces of bread. The pretzel-style bread has an especially distinctive, delightful flavor.

Autumn in Aso is the season of art and appetite. Enjoy a museum visit followed by a hearty lunch with stunning mountain views—it’s the perfect day out! 🍂
