About the Restaurant

Hello, travelers!

It’s Binako, your Sarukuma writer,
writing with chilly fingers!

Today I’m introducing
“Meshi no Yamaichi”,
located in Uchinomaki, Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

You’ll find this gem right across the street from
“Imakin Shokudo”, the famous restaurant known for its iconic akaushi (Japanese red beef) bowl!

Yamaichi also serves akaushi beef bowls, and
I seriously recommend it, so please read on!
For parking, the Uchinomaki public parking lot is nearby^^

Inside, there are 3 tables and a counter seating area.

There’s also a traditional tatami-style seating area in the back,
making it easy to bring kids along for lunch ♪

They have Bumbo seats and floor cushions,
and the cushions feature the popular Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) design,
which kids will absolutely love!
They also have kids’ chairs, so you can comfortably enjoy lunch at the tables, too!

They’ve got dishes for kids, too!

Right next to the kids’ tableware,
this
can you guess what it is?

The All-You-Can-Eat Tsukemono (Japanese Pickles) Zone!

Joy, joy, joy!
All-you-can-eat pickles? Really?!
It turns out Yamaichi is the direct restaurant of a tsukemono (pickle) shop,
so they can offer this incredible all-you-can-eat experience!

Thank you,
Yamaichi!!

I went back for seconds
(and thirds!) of these delicious pickles.

The way this restaurant is connected to the pickle shop
adds such a lovely, welcoming touch ( *´艸`)

And the ultimate joy:
Aso Pickles All-You-Can-Eat — FREE!

This time, I ordered the
Akaushi Steak Bowl — 1,700 yen!

Just look at this glistening beef…
The deep red color is absolutely stunning.

Cooked perfectly rare,
the texture is wonderfully tender yet satisfying.
It’s hearty and that meaty richness is pure happiness.

Wrap the beef around a bite of rice
and you simply can’t stop eating!
The sauce ties the rice and meat together
in absolute perfect harmony.

After tasting this akaushi steak,
my taste buds were doing a happy dance!

And the dago-jiru (Aso’s traditional dumpling soup)
that comes with the meal is just lovely.
It’s piping hot and warms you to the core.

And it’s loaded with ingredients!
Generous portions of dumplings make it incredibly satisfying.
The gentle, comforting sweetness of the broth puts a smile on your face.

All-you-can-eat pickles,
delicious dago-jiru, and an amazing akaushi steak bowl —
Yamaichi is absolutely incredible!!

The staff was so friendly and welcoming, too ♪
