Introducing Onsen-tei Yu-an: Seasonal Cuisine and Inaniwa Udon Waraku

Hello there~
This is Maru, your SaruKuma writer.

Today I’m taking you to Ueki-machi Kameko, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City, where you’ll find
“Onsen-tei Yu-an: Seasonal Cuisine and Inaniwa Udon Waraku”.

It’s a charming little complex tucked away in the countryside!

You can spend the whole day here even with kids in tow β€” a must-visit for families! πŸ‘€

Cross the bridge over the river and you’ll arrive at Onsen-tei Yu-an, a private family-bath onsen ♨️

The parking lot is right at the entrance.
When I visited on a Sunday, the place was buzzing with families.
The private baths are so popular there’s often a waiting list! (β‰§βˆ‡β‰¦)

Beyond the bathhouse you’ll spot a white building.
The restaurant is on the second floor.

On the first floor, there’s a children’s clothing boutique…

…and right next door, a balloon shop 🎈

Outdoor table seating is also available, so you can grab a soft-serve ice cream or tea and take a leisurely break!

Climb the stairs and you’ll reach the restaurant entrance!

The view from the windows is wonderfully peaceful.
Each table is partitioned with a screen for added privacy β€” perfect for a relaxed meal!

There are also private tatami-mat rooms, so families with kids are very welcome πŸ‘¦πŸ‘§

Children’s chairs are available too.

Beautiful Arita-ware ceramics are also for sale β€” so much fun to browse!
Apparently, the cups that reveal hidden clovers and hearts when you pour tea are super popular. I want one~ 😍

Seasonings are sold here too.
The “Miracle Sauce” β€” with a name like that, you can’t help but want to take some home! πŸ˜‹

Here’s the winter lunch menu.

The Inaniwa udon menu. Pretty rare to find this in Kyushu! (β‰§βˆ‡β‰¦)

The konjac-noodle udon menu. So healthy!

Plenty of other healthy menu options too.

There’s also an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu course.

Rice, soups, and desserts.

The takeout menu is impressively varied too! (^^)

This time, I ordered the Miracle Sauce Lunch for 1,280 yen.

First up, the salad.
Just look at this beauty β€” my heart was stolen the moment it arrived! ✨ (lol)

Brussels sprouts, kumquats, broccoli β€” bursting with the flavors of the season!

Here’s the main set: herb chicken grilled in Miracle Sauce with sansho pepper, rice, miso soup, and pickles.

And honestly β€” those gorgeous Arita-ware dishes! Stunning!
They make every dish look even more beautiful. I wanted to replace every plate at home (^^)

The chicken is glazed with that signature Miracle Sauce.
A crowd-pleasing sweet soy flavor with a gentle hint of sansho pepper!
The kind of taste that has you reaching for more rice (^^)

And here’s the salad from the Herb Chicken Karaage and TKG (Egg-Over-Rice) Lunch for 970 yen.

Just looking at this colorful, soothing salad makes me happy 😍

And the rest of the set: herb chicken karaage, TKG (egg over rice), miso soup, and pickles.

Now, time to make TKG! (Tamago Kake Gohan β€” raw egg over rice, a classic Japanese comfort food)

My daughter prefers only the yolk on her rice, so I needed to separate the white…
but the egg was so firm and bouncy it was almost impossible to cut! That’s the sign of a truly fresh, premium egg (β‰§βˆ‡β‰¦)

Sprinkle on some nori, and… enter “No-Face” (the famous Studio Ghibli character)!
He pours the soy sauce for you. My daughter was thrilled ☺️

She happily devoured the rich yolk-over-rice. (My husband, on the other hand, made TKG with just the white β€” to each their own, lol.)

The herb chicken karaage is wonderfully seasoned, and a squeeze of lemon adds a refreshing zing!
The outside is unbelievably crispy. The kind of perfection you simply can’t replicate at home.

And here’s the Herb Chicken and Vegetable Egg-Drop Udon for 980 yen β€” served tsukemen-style (dipping noodles).

Look at this beautiful tableware! Inaniwa udon, by the way, is a famous dried noodle from Akita Prefecture in northern Japan.

Dip the noodles into the rich, fluffy egg broth packed with mushrooms and veggies, and… slurp them up!

Inaniwa udon is famously thin, springy, and silky-smooth on the tongue.
The dashi-rich broth was deeply soothing β€” the kind of warmth that sinks right into you.

On the way out, I bumped into another “No-Face” by the register β€” turns out he’s a coin bank!

Press the sake cup and his mouth opens wide (“Wow!”) β€” he comes to life~ (Β΄βˆ€ο½€) Bye-bye, see you again!

So much more than just a restaurant β€” enjoy the family baths, shopping, and so much more! 😍
