About the Restaurant
Hello travelers!
I’m Binako, a Sarukuma writer (and yes, I’m the type who watches Instagram stories on mute).
Today I’m introducing you to a wonderful spot located in Kamitori-machi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City:
“Kamitori Rengatei”.

It’s located in the same building as gecko asianfoods & bar, which our fellow Sarukuma writer Cho-san previously introduced.

Step inside and you’ll find three teppan-equipped tables (where the iron griddle is built right into the table) and a counter section.
The moment you walk in, you realize this is a luxurious and stylish dining experience.
The menu features:
Hors d’oeuvres VariΓ© β 1,600 yen
Filet 100g β from 4,300 yen
Sirloin 150g β from 5,400 yen
Express Set β 1,600 yen

Lunch sets:
Hamburg Steak Set β 2,000 yen
Loin Steak Set β 2,200 yen
Healthy Steak Set β 3,800 yen
Filet Steak Set β 5,000 yen
Dinner sets:
Loin Steak Set β 3,300 yen
Local Chicken Steak Set β 3,300 yen
Beyond the sets, you’ll also find Γ la carte options for meat and seafood.
As a serious meat lover, I wanted to try absolutely everything!
Recommended Menu
This time, I went with the Filet Steak and Sirloin Set Menu.

First up β the hors d’oeuvres.
An elegant plate packed with deliciousness.
The tuna was incredible, and the prosciutto-wrapped potato was simply divine.
And then β the meat arrives!
My excitement meter was officially off the charts.
My heart was racing!
The chef begins by slowly grilling fresh vegetables on the teppan right in front of you…
While we waited, the salad arrived.
You can choose from three dressings:
soy sauce, mayonnaise, or French.
I went with the soy sauce dressing.
You also get to choose between soup or gojiru (a traditional Japanese miso-style soup).
The choices were pumpkin soup or black bean gojiru, and I picked the black bean gojiru.
It was wonderfully light and absolutely delicious.
You get to enjoy the texture and toasty fragrance of the beans in every spoonful.
And now β the main event!
The chef asks how you’d like your steak cooked, and I went for medium rare.
Whoaaaa!!
I couldn’t stop grinning!!!
The owner chats with you while grilling, which makes the whole experience even more fun and lively.
Such a blissful sight!
The carrots and pumpkin, slow-grilled to perfection, were so soft they practically melted in my mouth.
I was honestly amazed β who knew vegetables could taste this good?!
Next came the filet steak.
Look at that beautiful pink center β absolutely perfect!
A pinch of salt and…
Oh wow, this is unreal. Pure happiness.
The flavor of the meat is so concentrated, you don’t even need salt.
It was so good, I think I left my cheeks behind!
SIRRRβ
βLOIN!!!
My heart is doing somersaults β let’s move on to the next photo!
The sirloin gets a quick sear and is sliced rapidly.
Somebody stop me from grinning!
By the way, the chef will ask if you’d like garlic chips alongside.
For me, it’s an absolute YES, no questions asked!
Garlic forever!!
The juices from the marbled fat burst across your tongue and just melt away.
And it’s impossibly tender.
What is this?! The meat literally dissolves in your mouth!
The owner’s grilling skills are truly something else.
Even the bean sprouts, given a quick toss on the teppan at the end, are surprisingly delicious without any seasoning at all.
They’re crisp and dance in your mouth with every bite.
And here’s a special touch β the white rice is grown by the owner himself.
Glossy, fluffy, and absolutely delicious.
To finish, I enjoyed a hot cup of coffee.
Between the owner’s wonderful smile, the incredibly delicious meat, and the dramatic teppanyaki experience, the lingering happiness was off the charts.
For celebrations or whenever you want to treat yourself to something extra special, this is the place to go. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kumamoto!
