Ogura’s Karaage Hikari-no-Mori Store,
located in Suginamidai, Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District, Kumamoto Prefecture.

The shop has a lively, eye-catching look from the outside.

This is a popular karaage (Japanese fried chicken) chain with seven locations across Kumamoto Prefecture.

The shop is just a 3-minute drive straight from Hikari-no-Mori.

It really stands out, so you’ll spot it right away.
There’s also plenty of shared parking nearby.

As soon as you open the door, you’re at the order counter.

Some of their other branches have eat-in seating, but the Hikari-no-Mori Store is takeout only.

Karaage is sold in pairs.

2 pieces for 240 yen… a little pricey?
That’s what I thought at first, but not at all! (^^)
Each piece is so big that it’s actually great value!

The flavor options are “soy sauce,” “salt,” and “yuzu pepper.”
Beyond karaage, they also offer chicken wings, chicken nanban and bento (lunch boxes).

This time I ordered the
Limited-Time Shrimp Sansho Karaage Bento – Small (3 pieces of karaage) for 450 yen

I absolutely love shrimp,
so this one had been on my mind for a while (lol).
When you order, they hand you a buzzer like this and you wait outside or in your car.

A nice setup that helps avoid crowding (^^)

Sadly, photos can’t capture this part —
the aroma is incredible! It’s so fragrant you’d almost forget it’s shrimp karaage and not something else (^^)

And the taste? Yes! Absolutely irresistible!
The juicy karaage, the savory aroma of shrimp, and the gentle tingle of sansho (Japanese pepper) come together beautifully ♡

The seasoning is rich and bold,
so you’ll keep reaching for more rice — and maybe more sake too!

I ordered the small size this time, but I was so full I couldn’t move for a while lol.
Great value too ♪
