2024.04.18

A Sarukuma writer visits “Tanaka Manju Shop” in Magarino, Matsubase-machi, Uki City. Prices start from just 100 yen. We’ve also included family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.
About Tanaka Manju Shop
Hello, this is Suno, a writer for Sarukuma!
Today I’m introducing a wonderful spot located in Magarino, Matsubase-machi, Uki City:
【Tanaka Manju Shop】
You’ll find it on the way from Matsubase toward Misato Town.
Nearby is “Aka Renga,” another spot we’ve previously featured on Sarukuma.
Look for the bold red “Amazake Manju” (sweet rice manju) sign — that’s your landmark!
While Tanaka Manju Shop doesn’t have a dedicated parking lot, you can park right in front of the store.
Just look at that delicious steam rising from the steamer — irresistible!

The moment the lid was lifted, the most adorable pink and white manju (Japanese steamed buns) emerged, all soft and fluffy.
They look so plump and cuddly, you’ll want to reach out and touch them!♪
The friendly owner and staff kindly took the time to show me their freshly wrapped amazake manju lined up in the display case.♪
So beautiful… and so delicious-looking!♪
As the shop’s signature item, it’s no surprise that many customers buy them in large quantities at once.
Other treats include Habutae Mochi (pink & white) — ¥100
Brown Sugar Manju — ¥100
Yabure Manju (with white bean paste) — ¥100
Soba Manju — ¥100, and more!
The fact that nearly everything costs just 100 yen (less than $1) is one of the secrets behind their never-ending stream of customers.
Their sekihan (red bean rice) is also delicious and very popular.
For special celebrations, picking up traditional red and white manju from Tanaka Manju Shop would be a wonderful choice!♪
Recommended Menu Items at Tanaka Manju Shop

So many choices — what to pick?
Many regulars come in the morning, and on this day too, cars kept pulling in one after another!
The shop closes once everything sells out, so we recommend visiting early to avoid disappointment!
Of course, you can’t leave without trying the amazake manju!
And getting change back from a 100-yen coin? What a wonderful deal!
And of course I had to grab some sakura mochi (cherry blossom rice cake), which ranks among my top favorite Japanese sweets!♪
There’s a vending machine right at the storefront, so you can grab drinks too — super convenient!
And get this — they even sell soft serve ice cream!
There’s also an attached liquor shop where you can purchase Japanese sake and other alcoholic beverages.
Time to head to a nearby park to enjoy our treats! First up — the amazake manju.
The dough is wonderfully chewy, and the smooth red bean filling inside has just the right level of sweetness.♪
And the best part? It’s just as delicious even when it cools down!
Next is the lovely soft pink sakura mochi — a true taste of spring in Japan!
The fragrance is wonderful, and the pickled cherry leaf pairs perfectly with the soft mochi.
Tanaka Manju Shop is the kind of place that just pulls you in. Follow the steam, and come experience this beloved local gem for yourself!♪
