Introducing Tsunagu

Hello travelers! This is Gachako, your Sarukuma writer.

Summer has arrived in Kumamoto β€” and with it comes that famously hot and humid weather we’re known for!

Today I’m excited to introduce a spot that’s absolutely perfect for the season: Tsunagu, a charming cafe located in Nabeta, Yamaga City.

Tsunagu recently opened right next to one of summer’s most popular destinations: Nabeta Water Park!

Because Tsunagu sits just a stone’s throw from the park, you can pop in for a break while the kids play. Parents can sip a relaxing drink or enjoy a sweet treat while keeping an eye on the little ones having fun nearby.

Honestly β€” what could be better?

Parking is available right in front of the shop, making it easy to hop in and out, even with young children in tow.

(Apologies β€” I forgot to snap a photo of the parking area!)

It’s always a good idea to check their Instagram for the latest updates, but here’s a look at the regular operating hours:

Here’s a peek at Tsunagu’s menu.

You’ll find drip coffee and espresso-based latte drinks. Best of all, you can choose from regular milk, soy, or oat milk for your latte β€” almost like a famous global coffee chain!

The original craft drinks made with house syrups also caught my eye, and after running around the park, nothing beats a creamy soft-serve ice cream!

Tsunagu cafe latte and soda

I tried the Soy Cafe Latte (450 yen) and the Blue Sky Soda (400 yen)! There’s even a designated photo spot for snapping Instagram-worthy drink shots, so I took my chance β€” and the bright blue soda with a cherry on top looked absolutely stunning!

The Blue Sky Soda is made with orange curaçao syrup, giving it a wonderfully refreshing citrus taste with just the right touch of sweetness. My first-grader absolutely loved it.

The latte was equally impressive β€” the soy milk blended beautifully with a rich, robust coffee flavor that gave me a perfect pick-me-up by the time I’d finished the cup!

And there’s plenty more to try…

I hear they’ve also started serving kakigōri (Japanese shaved ice) too! ✨

The owner shared with me that running a drink shop in this very location had been a dream since childhood. With so much passion and ambition behind the cafe, Tsunagu is definitely a place worth visiting on your next trip to Yamaga β™ͺ
