📌 What You’ll Find in This Article
A SaruKuma writer visits “Gateau une maison” (お菓子の家 / Okashi no Ie — “The House of Sweets”), a cozy cake shop located in Kamishima, Kashima Town, Kamimashiki District. Prices start from just 350 yen. We’ve also rounded up family-friendly tips, access info, and opening hours.

Hello, fellow travelers!
It’s Binako, your SaruKuma writer ♪

Today I’m excited to introduce you to
a delightful little patisserie tucked away in Kamishima, Kashima Town, Kumamoto Prefecture — right near AEON Mall Kumamoto:
“Gateau une maison” (ガトーアンメゾン), whose name means “a house of cakes” in French.

The shop has a generous parking lot with space for 5 cars — convenient if you’re road-tripping around Kumamoto.
What I loved most: posted right at the entrance is the shop’s calendar of upcoming cakes for the next 2 months!
This makes it so easy to plan ahead for birthdays, anniversaries, or any special occasion during your trip ★

Inside, you’ll find not only fresh cakes but also a beautiful selection of baked sweets (yaki-gashi) — perfect Japanese-style cookies and pastries ♪
You can buy them individually or in pre-arranged gift sets, making them ideal souvenirs to bring back home (^^♪

Each treat is individually wrapped with care.
If you’re traveling with kids, picking out one of each together is half the fun ♪

They also offer beautifully packaged baked-sweets gift assortments!
These are perfect as gifts or omiyage (Japanese travel souvenirs) ♪

There were also gift boxes a bit different from the regular assortments!

The packaging is so cute — they make wonderful little presents for friends back home ★

I also spotted a sweet I’d never seen before!
At first I thought it was jam, but it’s actually a [Sorbet]
a frozen treat similar to sherbet that you eat chilled!

It comes in gift sets too, and on a hot Japanese summer or fall day, kids will absolutely love it (^_-)-☆

And then — right there in front of me — was a glittering display case full of cakes.
As a serious sweet tooth, I couldn’t help grinning from ear to ear (lol).

Thankfully, my mask hid my goofy smile… probably.

This time of year, they had seasonal autumn sweets too, and everything looked so tempting it was genuinely hard to choose.

On top of the showcase, I also spotted an unusual drink called [Blue Italy]!

Sicilian Lemon Soda
Pink Grapefruit
Sicilian Blood Orange Soda
Three flavors, each priced at 350 yen.

They look adorable, and the fizzy bubbles make them perfectly refreshing ♪

Next to the register, you’ll find insulated cooler bags and eco bags for sale.
They’re a nice size — handy for sightseeing days out around Kumamoto!

Recommended Menu

After much delicious deliberation, I went with the [Pre-Gre].
At 460 yen, it’s a wonderfully reasonable treat ^^

The shop has an eat-in space, so I decided to enjoy it on the spot with a cup of coffee ^^

The seating consists of 2 tables with room for 4 people each ^^

Now then… time for the moment of truth…

It’s a chocolate mousse and nut cake, and I have to say —
it is absolutely delicious!

The base sponge is lightly sweetened, which keeps the whole cake balanced and easy to enjoy!
As you can see in the photo, there’s also a hidden nut sauce inside —
it feels like a little bonus surprise with every bite!

The chocolate pairs beautifully with coffee!

The atmosphere inside the shop is so warm and inviting
that I was able to relax and savor every bite ( *´艸`)

They also had a seasonal special — Pêche Reine, made with a whole peach!

This is definitely a shop I’d love to visit again!
Next time, I’m going to give the sorbet a try ♪
Gochisousama deshita — thank you for the wonderful treat ^^
