Introducing Once upon an egg

Hello, this is Gachako, writer for [Sarukuma].
A collaboration cafe between Tsuboi Poultry Farm (famous for their “Aozora Tamago” blue-sky eggs) and the beloved sweets shop Okashi no Ouchi hibi!? (And there’s even more to it — details below!) With this exciting preview info in mind, I headed over with great anticipation!

Today I’m introducing a spot located in Kuhara, Yamaga City:
[Once upon an egg]

The shop name is hard to memorize on the first try, so I’ve been repeating “Once upon an egg” out loud since yesterday (lol).
My personal interpretation is that there’s a hidden theme of “a story that begins with an egg.”
It feels like a place where eggs will spark all kinds of new connections.

The parking lot at Once upon an egg is spacious — just look for the red sign as your landmark.

From the first parking lot, you’ll need to climb a set of stairs.
There’s also a route to drive up to the shop, so just follow the signs.

Right at the entrance, there’s a direct sales corner for free-range eggs, where you can buy eggs in any quantity you like.

The coffee is roasted in-house from green beans by the Tsuboi sisters themselves.
I got to try a sample, and it was surprisingly delicious.
Yamaga is getting almost too many great coffee shops these days. So jealous~.

And here’s the great news for families with kids — [Once upon an egg] is highly recommended for parents traveling with little ones!
The restrooms include a diaper-changing area and a dedicated nursing room.

The nursing room interior is incredibly stylish, so feel free to make use of it!

You can also take out baked goods supervised by Okashi no Ouchi hibi.
On this day, they had lemon cakes and chocolate chunk cookies.

Egg sandwiches, scotch egg burgers — exactly the lineup you’d hope for from an egg specialist!
If you order a picnic set,

you can enjoy it on the terrace seating, or rent a picnic mat and dine right on the grass.

Once upon an egg – Recommended Menu Items

I tried the Once × hibi Strawberry Shortcake!
Strawberry season is wrapping up soon, so don’t wait too long..
(Update: This item was discontinued at the end of May. Look forward to the next season!)

The cake layers are filled with rich egg-forward custard cream and plenty of fresh strawberries.
More than anything, finally getting to taste hibi’s sweets — something I’d been longing for — was pure happiness…

My friend and I also shared the Egg-Loaded French Toast with Seasonal Fruit.

A special bread made just for French toast, soaked to the limit with rich egg custard — irresistible!!
Pairing the warm French toast with cold soft-serve ice cream, or with the fresh fruit, made every bite delicious right to the very end.

A morning service featuring “tamago kake plates” (Japanese-style fresh egg over rice) launches Tuesday, June 6 at 9:00, and there are also workshops planned in the kitchen space — there’s no doubt that [Once upon an egg] will keep delivering exciting moments. Be sure to stop by!

A whole egg sandwiched together with tartar sauce. A truly satisfying dish!
