Toroku, Higashi Ward, Kumamoto City:
“DelicaWhim”.

Tucked along the roadside, this little shop is easy to walk right past — but trust me, you don’t want to miss it.
It’s a truly wonderful spot, and the owner is so friendly and full of personality that I just had to share it with you!

The moment you step inside, you’ll see the opening hours and the shop’s concept written out for everyone to see.

DelicaWhim runs on a delightfully “whimsical” schedule — both the menu and the days off change based on the owner’s mood!

Already, this is fascinating.
Every visit becomes an adventure as you discover what’s on the menu that day!

Here’s today’s whimsical lineup:

Plain — 300 yen

Cheese — 350 yen

Curry — 350 yen

Cheese Risotto — 400 yen

Meat Sauce — 350 yen

Taco Rice — 450 yen

Toroku Rice — 500 yen

Toroku Rice…?

Curious, I asked about it. Turns out, it’s a playful twist on the well-known Japanese “Turkish Rice” dish — a creative riff named after the Toroku neighborhood. This Toroku Rice is a three-topping plate featuring whatever ingredients the shop has on hand that day!

I can hardly wait to see what tops it!!

The base is a slow-simmered chicken stew, and with so many flavors to choose from, you’ll want to try them all!

Sample Tasting Time

This is the Plain Chicken Stew.

It has a gentle, comforting flavor and the chicken is so tender it falls apart — absolutely delicious!
Just imagining it spooned over rice makes my stomach growl!

Another Tasting!

This one’s the Curry Chicken Stew.

Made with curry powder, the spices soak deep into every bite — wonderfully flavorful!

Tender chicken paired with that spicy curry kick — it’s the kind of universally loved flavor that pairs perfectly with rice!!

Yet Another Tasting!

This is the Meat Sauce.

This handmade meat sauce is incredibly tasty.
It has a touch of sweetness with a hearty, meaty texture — kids absolutely love it!

Wait — too many tastings!

Is this owner the embodiment of kindness?

I also got to try the taco rice topping.

Unlike the meat sauce, this one has a lovely tomato tang — absolutely outstanding.

I’ve completely fallen for the owner’s culinary skills.

This is house-made prosciutto, currently being perfected!

Thick-cut and looking absolutely mouthwatering…

I can’t wait for it to make its menu debut!

This time I went with the Taco Rice — 450 yen!

I was already hooked from the tasting, so now it’s time to enjoy it at home.

Loaded with garlic and looking incredibly delicious!

And the aroma is so intoxicating I could barely hold back from digging in immediately!

The cheese, the seasoned taco mix, the rice, and that bold garlic come together in perfect harmony — this is the kind of taco rice you can’t stop eating!

The cabbage adds a wonderful crunch, making each bite incredibly satisfying.

Honestly, 450 yen for this is a steal!

The owner’s warmth and friendly nature are truly something special,
and the food is so delicious that I genuinely want everyone to experience it!
