Today I’m excited to introduce a lovely little shop located in Kawayo, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture —
“Minamiaso Select”.

The shop has such a charming, atmospheric vibe that I just had to check it out!

You can spot it easily from the road thanks to the signboard out front.

The shop sits right next to Merukoro Bread Bakery, which we’ve also featured here on Sarukuma!

Climbing the stairs only adds to the charm — the whole atmosphere is exactly my style!

Right at the entrance, you’ll find additive-free potato chips and other body-friendly products on display.

I couldn’t wait to step inside!

Just inside the door, the first thing I spotted was Chirimen Ahijo (baby sardines in olive oil) — 956 yen.

This product was actually awarded the top prize at the Japan Gift Awards!

And here’s the kicker — Minamiaso Select is the only place in Kumamoto where you can buy it, so don’t miss your chance!

I was also offered a tasting!

It was Yuzu Tea — a warming Japanese citrus tea.

Whole pieces of yuzu citrus float inside, and it’s beautifully sweet and delicious.

One sip and I instinctively let out a “Ahhh, so warming~!” — pure comfort in a cup!

These are drinking vinegars — a popular Japanese health beverage.

With so many flavors, you’re sure to find one you love!

There are about 8 varieties, including Amaou strawberry, apple, and ginger!

Next up: Goishi Eggs — 600 yen.

These eggs come from Goishi chickens raised on feed made with fermented fertilizer.

The shop says they’re absolutely best enjoyed as Tamago Kake Gohan (raw egg over rice) — a classic Japanese breakfast!

Definitely caught my eye…

Beyond food, the shop also stocks natural soaps and skincare products.

Like the food items, these are all additive-free, which is a real blessing for parents with young children!

Forget salad chicken — meet Salad Mackerel (Saba) — 303 yen!

It’s a brilliant way to grab protein along with DHA and EPA on the go.

There are about 3 different flavors to choose from!

I also discovered the most adorable pasta!

Alphabet Pasta — 518 yen

It’s tiny pasta shaped like letters and numbers!

So fun and creative!

I’d love to eat this with kids, guessing letters together as we go!

The drink menu has detailed descriptions and photos, making ordering easy — even if you don’t read Japanese!

You’ll also find old-fashioned ice candies (Japanese ice pops)!

These nostalgic treats are seriously delicious — and with 7 flavors, you’ll have a delightful time deciding!

This time, I tried:

Yuzu Ginger Cider — 300 yen

Refreshingly sweet with a lovely ginger kick — the perfect midday pick-me-up!

And because it’s carbonated, that fizzy hit on your throat just makes you go:

“Aaahhh, that hits the spot!” — instant mood booster!

It’s the ultimate companion for a scenic drive through Aso.
